491-209

This is really an important post. I made the observation yesterday (right or wrong) that we play well in Q1and Q4 but take a nap in Quarters 2 and 3.

I'm at the airport to fly back to my workoholic life so can't run the numbers right now but would love to see this comparison via Q1 Q2/3 Q4. I'll do it when I get home if needed.
Q3 yesterday we did well. Q4 we collapsed after turning over on downs when we needed the first down deep in VT territory with a chance to take the lead.

So much for trend analysis. Geez. Been a long time since I can't even come up with a plausible theory.

I recall a convo I had with one of the players from the 1990 team (post 1990) to ask why we couldn't/didn't win an ACC game in 87 or 88. He told me flat out that the Curry guys (of which he was one) refused to play for Ross. The loyalty was strong. But by 1989, the Curry guys bought in to Ross and it all started to click.

We are now at the same point with Collins but *nothing* is clicking.

Ross essentially gave the troops the ass chewing of their lives and said he will let them choose if he stays or not and gave them time to think about it, fully ready to resign and middle finger GT and GT players on his way out the door. Luckily, our players decided to rally around the coach and we won a Natty a few years later.

I was not aware of this. Good info.

Interesting. Garbage time accounts for some of it, but it is definitely a thing.
Today I learned that there is garbage time in the first half. I never knew that.

Edit: öööö. I should read the posts better.

I don't understand how loyalty to Curry would prevent his players from playing for Ross. Curry wasn't fired, he left the players.

Call it what you want but there were key players from the Curry regime that refused to play for Ross. This is first hand information - not friend of a friend heard such and such.

Yep. It came to a head before the Maryland game. Ross was prepared to walk and basically told the team so.

So next time you talk to your source ask him to explain why they were angry at Ross and loyal to Curry when Curry left them...? Just wondering.

Because Ross was a VMI guy. Strict and straightforward. Ross was a relentless worker. Curry was a Tech man in the mould of Dodd. Different styles with the prior having the "Tech Man" reputation.

608-303. Updated through today’s game. It includes Kennesaw State.
695-345

almost perfectly doubled. Uncanny how steady our abysmal first half performance is. It includes a 21-17 first half victory against Miami where we were gifted 3 fumbles.

Battered wife syndrome?

Are you counting off for us gifting Notre Dame, VT, UVA?

No because it’s the norm not the exception. And I didn’t count off any points. These are the totals.

I just add commentary where I deem appropriate.

768-376. First Half point differential. We may hit 1000 points against this year.

Same abysmal first halfs. Underprepared, undisciplined teams as usual. We will win a couple more games but it will be unexpected. I doubt we are favored in many.

This season only by quarter.

5 games in a row we’ve been shut out in the 4th quarter going back to last year.

When you realize 78% of all those points came against Western ööööing Carolina....
