4th and 1 out of the shotgun is just plain dumb

Particularly with the ability to run a “rugby play” and push your runner forward, put your QB under center and your three biggest, but somewhat agile, players in a wishbone formation and you pick up a yard every time.
 
Kelly sucks at beating the mutts. He didn't manage it at Notre Dame either. Paul Johnson was better

Yeah, I didn't see the end of that game and just assumed they must have been in shotgun. Regardless, it's a similar principle in that teams seem to outsmart themselves in those short yardage situations instead of just doing the simplest thing instead.
 
In the case of the LSU game, I thought it was dumb both to be in shotgun AND not to sneak.
