Enjoy !! GO JACKETS !!!

Wes and Gailey talk about the win against Virginia.. we ran 89 plays of offense... did not have good field position in the 2nd half... received the ball inside our 20 4 times in the second half.. the confidence seems to have improved.. Gailey says that we have had one good practice this week... one not so good (rain).. but everyone seems to be working hard.

Caller: Concerns about recruiting... can he talk about status on the state of Ga etc..

Gailey: We think its going well... have our eyes on several guys.. we have 75-80 guys on our list... not just Ga.. but all over the US... response seems good... you dont know until signing day.... we dont have alot of guys qualified or approved for us out of the state of Ga this year... some have committed to other places that have qualified... but there arent alot in Ga that can qualify for us this year.

Caller: question about Ford, Fox and Hatch... and the officals in the ACC this year

Gailey: Ford is probably finished for his career .. it doesnt look good... Fox practiced yesterday... it will be a gametime decision... but Fox may be able to play on Saturday... Hatch, not sure what the problem is, early in the year he just didnt have that spark... all the other guys have just improved over time, but Hatch hasnt been able to get going this year

Caller: AJ seemed to be a little more comfortable against Va... comment on this

Gailey: Believes he is getting more comfortable.. the no huddle has helped... AJ being in charge has helped... he seems to be gaining confidence... its an ongoing process, sometimes it takes 4 or 5 ballgames to figure out what is good for a guy and what he can deal with... and design a system that works for him

Caller: Looking at the numbers... looks like Clinkscale has been playing well... are there any plans to get him more involved?

Gailey: Gordon has done an excellent job... he is a 3rd down scatback... we have tried to get his hands on the ball when things are spread out a little more... not put him in position to pound at it... we do plan to get him involved as much as we can..

Caller: Hopefully we will keep AJ in the pocket.. he seems to be better throwing from the pocket ... seems the misdirection has hurt us on defense...

Gailey: Actually AJ has had more success out of the pocket... spreading the offense out has given him a little more comfort... plans are to get him out of the pocket more on bootlegs etc... but the defense dictates what you do in those situations .. misdirection has hurt us... we rely on speed on defense... we really have to work hard on the misdirection

Caller: Comments on the teams energy and excitement... liked what he saw against Va... glad to see Gailey get on the offensive line a few times... question about AJ's time to throw and what do we do to counter the NC State rush?

Gailey: We have to start the game assuming that our line will be able to block their people.. if thats not to be the case.. then we go to plan B... you wont see us put 5 receivers out alot... this is due to protection... key to the game, can we win one on one outside... our challenge will be to stop the running game, and slow down Rivers... this will be our biggest defensive challenge of the year.

Caller: Recruiting question.. right now we are not getting good vibes on recruiting.. can you get the job done so we can continue to win...

Gailey: Yes ! The bottomline on recruiting is evaluation... evaluating what you need to get the job done... the response we are getting is good.. we evaluate on academics, talent, etc.. we want the kind of guy who can help us beat Georgia every year... we are getting good response on that... dont get too bent out of shape on the recruiting, and dont pay too much attention to the "experts"... the "experts" have proven to be wrong in the past... talks about Texas winning the recruiting war, but not winning a NC.... says we are doing fine there.

Wes talks about recruiting... and stresses that it is a national thing for us...

Gailey says that we have done an excellent job of getting out nationally... talks about a lineman in Wisonsin... 6-7 270..we talked with him last night ...he is not on anybodys list... Colorado knows about him, etc...he is interested in us because of academics... Texas is becoming a really big area for us...

Caller: Do we plan to do more of the trick plays... anthing to keep the defense off balance... question about the Johnson boy, from Evans Ga.. is he going to play any?

Gailey: Brian Johnson injured his ankle in preseason... really had a bad ankle and has not practiced or played very well since.... he has approached Gailey about moving to TE... it will probably be spring before we can spend any time with him at TE.... we have trick plays... sometimes we use them sometimes we dont.... timing is the key... its when you use them...

Caller: Couple of things... he seconds a comment about we seem to do better when AJ looks off... also comments about us playing Hester soft.. when we are tight on the other side... why is this...

Gailey: You change those things up to see how they are going to play against it... you are trying to bait them to throw underneath and not go deep... our philosophy on defense is blitz/zone... not to give up the big play... make the QB throw where he doenst want to... and throw when he doesnt want to... Hester rarely has Safety help .... so he plays a little softer...

Wes comments about the move of BOB to the booth... how is it going... Wes comments that it seems to be going good...

Gailey thinks its more that BOB is able to see better.... which gives him the oppty to call better plays... which helps AJ... it has nothing to do with sideline relationships etc... BOB feels alot more comfortable upstairs... BOB has a much better comfort level with who is talking to AJ during the game....

We are making great strides from the standpoint of working as a team in terms of the coaching staff.

Caller: Has noticed that NC State likes to play aggressive O and D... do you agree? Hope we can stay away from the NC State taunting, have we talked about that this week...

Gailey: Yes ! We dont believe in that... we let our talking get done with our hats...

Caller: On the dropped interception... what are we doing about that...

Gailey: We worked hard on that this week.. you are right... if we could have caught any of those against Va, it would have been... hopefully the work will pay off this week.

Caller: Wondering if he could comment on the health of Curry and Ace

Gailey: Curry will play quite a bit on Sat, he has had a great week of practice... Ace is better.. not 100%.. but is better.. will see some playing time.. but not as extensive as the NC game.

Comments about PJ and the great job he has done... also talks about E. Smith breaking the record at Dallas...

Final comments on NC State
Kicking game will be huge for us this week.... special teams will be huge this week...

Did he really say, "We want to recruit the kind of people who can beat Georgia every year?" Are you sure he said that? Knowing whether he really said that is very important to me. That's what I want to hear our coach say, so I just want a confirmationn that he said those exact words. Thanks for the excellent report.

GREAT REPORT! as usual

THANKS

you guys and gals are welcome !!

Thanks, again jacketguy - your reports are much appreciated.

I like Gailey's quote about "talking with our hats". I would like to see a little more of it though.

Mega thanks! Was unable to listen to a word of the show. Can't seem to get people to leave me alone during that hour weekly.

Super recap!

"Beat UGA every year."

Win this week could really give this program a big boast. We've had so many things happen to the program since last year. The guys have really fought hard through all this.

Tough game, but it's one we can win I feel.

Go Jackets!

GTT, you hit the nail on the head at YJA about AJ. He did have his game face on and it showed on the field. I shouldn't have doubted you

Well I have changed my stance on Gailey. I say we give him this year and next. I want to see how the recruiting class shapes up and what he can do after another spring.

I think he is beginning to understand just how passionate a lot of us are about Tech football. This isn't a basketball school like he may have been led to believe. Heck we practically invented college football!

So I will eat my crow and say that I was wrong and he does deserve the opportunity to show us what he can do... even if we &lt;gulp&gt; lose the rest of our games.

Thanks a bunch, jacketguy!
Gailey has talked about beating Georgia, winning the ACC, expecting to win ...from the git-go!He has talked about recruiting from the beginning. I know because I have listened for whines like, "Why do I have to play Notre Dame!", and he hasn't made them. His expectations are high.

Nobody knows, not even Beeware, how good a coach he'll be, but so far he has not done anything to make me think he isn't a great hire.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">Way to step up, Beesnut. It is important that we give him a chance. It is worse for the program to not have continuity from the head coach position.

Now when MR leaves at the end of this year for Nebraska and if GO' L takes his place; that would redefine our famous battle cry, “To Hell with Georgia!"

Thank you, Mr Jacketguy. I had a coupla gaps in my listening that u filled in nicely.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">Beesnut, I'm glad you're showing some sense, but where in the world did, "a basketball school like he may have been led to believe", come from? There is absolutely NO evidence for anything like that. He grew up in Georgia, for crying out loud! He knows EXACTLY how passionate Tech football fans are! Has that doodlehead Beeware poisoned the well so badly, with his talk of CG "looking for a place to retire" that people actually believe it? Somebody else said that, too. It is simply stupid. If you listen to Beeware about Gailey, you'd follow somebody's dog off.

Gailey's recruiting comments were very general, with little information that anyone could take as good news. He did confirm that very few, if any, Georgia boys would be signed. This is, of course, total BS.

.
BOO

I wonder how the critic response will be if we end the season with all w's? Will we be thought of like Ohio State or will they just figure it as a fluke?

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">I think NCAA regulations prohibit much more than generalities at this point... and I am missing the BS portion that you are seeing... I guess I dont understand the importance of having Georgia boys... NC State has been raiding Florida for the past 2 years and seem to be doing fine.... I dont care if we have 85 guys from Alaska.. as long as we win... and beat Georgia...
