Regarding the discussion about sodding versus sprigging...no question that sprigging is much better in the long term (seeding would be even better if they had the time).Sodding is only better when time is a factor.
The best football turf in the entire nation is at UT Knoxville. When they went to real grass, they essentially made a golf green for a football field. They sprigged the field and by selective watering they trained the roots to go about 10 inches deep, so that a 300# lineman can fall all over it with virtually no damage.
There were several major articles about the methods that UT used on their field and these articles may be available as archives on the net. Very worthwhile reading...if I find them i will post a link.
