Do preferred walk-ons count? Another OL.

Muns was a huge contributor to the Swainsboro Tiger football program over the last 4 years. In his 4 years as a Tiger, Muns was a starter on the offensive line for 3 years. In those 3 years, he received several prestigious awards and honors. He was voted a member of the 2010 and 2011 All-Region and All-State football teams as a 1st Team offensive lineman. He participated as a starter in the 1st annual CSRA Senior Bowl All-Star football game. And most importantly, he graduated from Swainsboro High School as an honor graduate.

The article makes it sound as though Auburn was recruiting him but he committed to us without a scholarship instead.

Welcome to the flats either way.

Interesting. Welcome!

Eric...Kelly? Where you at? Getting beat by the forest-blade.com's of the world now?

Sounds like he graduated this year so should be enrolling in the fall? Or is he going to take a semester off and enroll in January?

PWO's don't count against schollies. So he's not really committing to anything. Sounds like he had the grades to get in with any preference in admissions.

They really do get offers as PWO's and they do commit...but there is not a real LOI. A school is limited to about 20 PWO's on roster at any time as you cannot carry more than 105 on the total roster using scholarships (no more than 85), walk-on's, and preferred walk-on's. Preferred walk-on's are guaranteed a roster spot.

Here is more:

WALK-ON
A football player who joins a college team once classes have started in the fall, and hopes to demonstrate he should be given a roster spot. He is not on scholarship.

PREFERRED WALK-ON
A player who is promised a roster spot, and reports with the scholarship players for fall camp a few weeks before classes start. He is not on scholarship, but can earn scholarships as they become available.

About the only real value of being a preferred walk on at Tech is that they can get you into school through the admissions process easier than getting in as a regular student.

I guess someone better tell this to CPJ because ramblinwreck.com lists 96 players on the roster right now and there are 16 more players due to arrive soon.

So you're saying they don't get street cred??

I thought Navy carried like 130+ since everyone in the whole school is on scholarship.

More than that:
1- Full access to tutoring system
2- Access to great coaching and S&C
3- Opportunity to earn a schollie...something that has worked well at GT.
4- Academic counselors to help with scheduling and graduation plan
5- Access to internships and post-grad network
6- Access to athletic medical staff
7- Tons of gear : - )

etc. etc. etc.

The academies have no limit to the amount of players they can scholarship...or roster in general. That is as it should be.
