Make no mistake about it, everybody @ Miami is very upset with a 9-3 Peach Bowl team that will certainly be an end of the year Top 15 program. The Athletic Director is going to sit down with HC Coker to discuss staff changes. They'll also discuss if the Hurricanes need to rebuild rather than reload, which may mean that the 'Canes suggest some players transfer & recruit 25 strong Fla Frosh.
Very refreshing to see HC Coker tell it like it is "we were soundly beaten. We didn't lose, we were beaten". Also good to see Coker stand up like a man & say that he wasn't happy with himself, as well as, his staff with the last 2 yrs instead of "Quit? Who quit?" (hee, hee). Coker says "don't just get after the OC, it's all of us". I like his attitude.

Coker to reassess coaching staff

The reality of life in the ACC compared to the Big East is making things very difficult for the Miammaa Canes. So sorry!

You need to get on the right airplane.
Miami was a power before they entered the Big East, and they are the same power now. They only see conferences as something they expect to win every year so that they can play in the national title game. They have higher expectations than winning acc conference mandated bowl games.
Unlike so many Tech fans, UM doesn't consider any post season invite an accomplishment. I am sure they had worse thoughts about the Peach Bowl than most of us did about the emerald, and whatever first year "bowl" game we will be striving for next year.

According to this original post, Miami is publicly embarrassed by the blowout in Atlanta. What is refreshing is that they step up to the plate and tell the world that they are not satisfied with anything other than national championships.

I wish our people had a similar set of expectations.
Our coach and AD are trying so hard to jam low expectations down our throat.
I missed the public comments by Braine. What were they?
The only thing heard from Gailey was that we didn't quit,...We just felt that we were too far behind to win. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wtf.gif Quitter.

It seems like Coker's record has been getting worse the more his own recruits have been coming online, so to speak. A correlation to his recruiting?

Maybe that is part of their problem. I attended the game. The LSU fans on the way to the GA Dome on MARTA were acting like they were going to the Rose Bowl. Very appreciative. Very Loud. Having a grand ol' time.

The Miami fans - and I wore Miami stuff - acted generally like they were on their way to a funeral. I suppose kinda snobbish about attending a "lesser" bowl than their beloved Canes deserve. I guess the Peach bowl insulted them, which is how I suppose we are supposed to act when we don't get invited to a top teir bowl.

The LSU fans were much much louder than the Miami fans, and that wasn't just because of their greater numbers. They were happy to be there and to see their Tigers play again. They were loud an hour before the game - band playing, people cheering, singing the fight song, tiger bait, all that stuff.

The Miami fans, for the most part, lulled around.

Perhaps Miami fans should act more like the LSU fans and appreciate their bowl invite going forward.

I personally liked the "old days" when teams politely refused invites after a poor year. Of course every team had to decide what was a good vs. poor year.

Maybe coaches felt that embarrassments like what UM and Tech suffered would be the outcome.

All of that may well be true, but the original point of GTAce's post shouldn't be lost. The U of M wants excellence in its football program, and considers a 9-3 season unacceptable. We at GT, on the other hand, continue to look at every 7-win season as a sign that better things are just around the corner, and take one or two wins a year over better teams as an indication that Gailey has got it right. Our optimism is refreshing, but it won't make us a top program. Only major, sweeping changes will. Miami realizes that. So far, GT hasn't.

Give me an example pw. I don't remember a team turning down a bowl since like the 60s. Are those the old days you're talking about or do you know of someone doing it more recently?

Exactly. I was thinking specifically of a Gator bid that Dodd turned down. As you know, it wasn't that rare of an occurrance and it wasn't always about feeling snubbed.
If what I read was accurate, Dodd turned down the Gator that year because he felt the Tech fans didn't want to go back to Jax again so soon.

Well, Miami just lost 4 coaches, including 3 on the offensive side. Any chance Tech tries to pick some of them up, maybe put a team on the field that can score more than 18.5 ppg?

One of the firees was the OLine coach that has been there for every national championship.
Of course, the Miami OLine sucked this year. I know they had some new guys, but they were bad.

Really sounds like this was much more than just the bowl loss. I wonder how many would have been let go no matter how that game went. I mean, you give up 40 and your DC isn't part of the bloodbath?

Like I said somewhere else, I think changes were coming after they lost to us, ending their BCS bowl hopes. I think they would have smoked fsu.

The speed of the firings was the result (imo) of the melee after the Peach.

N.C. Thay is like not being able to score 20 ppg but not be replaced isnt it

Not sure what your question is, kind of hard to follow your comment.

But I'd guess it's about not firing anyone after only scoring 20 ppg. I would expect the HC to review what's not working and make changes. If Chan feels like he needs better WR play, for example he needs to fix it. Likewise if he feels the QBs aren't being coached well, he needs to fix that. Of course, since he acts as his own OC I don't know what to expect. But my point was simply that you don't normally fire coaches due to one game. Something else was going on at Miami that likely would have meant changes no matter what happened against LSU. Just as I'm pretty confident that whatever changes Chan makes (if any) were likely going to happen no matter the result against Utah.

You said the DC wasnt doing his job and needs to go because he gave up 40 points. I say it if the OC cant score more than 20 ppg he is not doing his job and the same applies
Oh I forgot .. the same dont apply here

No, I said,

Meaning, it wasn't that game that caused those guys to be fired, it was a bigger issue, because if it had simply been the Peach Bowl the DC should have gone as well. But since he didn't, it wasn't all about the bowl game.

Whatever Chan does (if he does anything) won't be because of he bowl game. I don't personally care if he fires he entire offensive staff, that's his call. I can't tell who's group is killing us but he should be able to.

No they didn't. Their exam schedule interfered...not the same thing. They didn't say no bowl, they said to the ACC, we can't do that one find us another game. Since they ended up in Boise I don't think we can say it was on principal that they didn't want a lessor bowl.
