Make no mistake about it, Boston College was the better team yesterday in Ireland.

The Jimmies and the Joes are the ones who block and tackle (too bad they couldn't kick) and there is a reason that the teams that recruit the best generally have the best teams, but for this one, the truth of the matter is that this game was won and lost on the sideline, where Paul Johnson and his staff owned Steve Addazio and his.

But the offensive system you play is not directly correlated to your courage and although what Addazio preaches goes in one direction, what you see in practice is something else. On the other hand, Johnson is more than a tad surly and coaches with an aggressiveness, a confidence, a chip on his shoulder that speaks to the lifetime criticism of his offense and today, that difference cost the Eagles the game.

Don't be confused that Tech played the way they did because they trailed, this is the norm for the Jackets, it is Johnson'spersonality.

When people say that and they have just lost, they lose all credibility. No your team wasn't better yesterday. The score showed it. To be better, your team (coaches, offense, defense, special teams) has to score more points than the other team. Just doesn't work any other way.

I think we got a little lucky myself but sometimes you make your own luck

So we were better than a 10 win FSU last year? That doesn't make sense. There are fluke plays in football such that the truly better team does not win. There are coaching decisions like kicking a long field goal that make a difference in a game. Or putting a crappy kicker in to try a field goal. What I saw up front is bothersome. You can't rely on outcoaching the other team over the long term, you have to win on the line of scrimmage.

We were better that game.

Actually that is how a team is successful in the long term. Your hate for CPJ is really showing in that comment. You are implying that CPJ isn't a good coach and can only beat coaches that are really bad.

A very well may have been, all things being equal. We were certainly better that day.

I don't see all the criticism on the lines. BC had a very stout d-line. Any time you face a good defense, the offense will be slow. The OL did well on pass protection, and we got some things going in the air when we needed it. Give them credit for that.

For our defensive line, that would be more of a concern to me vs our OL. We haven't had a strong DL unit since 2008. I've just become accustomed to subpar DL play the past few years. All they have to be is serviceable if our offense clicks. They just held a P5 team to 14 points, so let's withhold the torches for now.

Last year's team would have lost that game, so let's take it 1 week at a time.

We won on a fluke play. They happen in football. To say we were certainly better as a football team that day is a joke. They lined up to kick a field goal in a situation where their kicker had never missed one to win the game. The football gods gave us a break. Good win, but certainly not one that you can claim we were better, just more opportunistic.

The OL did better at pass protection, but it was far short of well. Why do you think we needed to make a 4th and 19?

I'd say, looking at the play of our special teams over the past season + 1, we've showed that we are pretty good in those scenarios. Any idea how many blocked kicks we have going back to 2014?

Fluke play? You mean like a 73-yard TD run that includes several blown tackles?

Three.

Tackling prowess has sucked for many years now, add in wet conditions and that did not surprise me. It was a fluke, but if you depend on that, you go 3-9, which is about what BC will do this year despite having what people claim is the best defense in the world. I'm being realistic. We did not look good and even CPJ said it was ugly and a lot needs to be fixed. Maybe a dry track helps, but you really don't want to rely on the weather.

You overlook the huge influence referees have on a game.

2014 we led the FBS in blocked kicks with 6.
2015 were in the top 25 with 3
2016 we already have 1

I don't see a fluke there, I see a trend in how the players are being coached up in particular skill.
So we need to depend on blocking kicks? That doesn't seem to me to be a good plan.
