A case for Collins...

Thanks for the post. The attitude here (myself included) is understandably very negative right now, but you're right that there are some positive signs.

It was really important to show results this year, but unfortunately we didn't and we can see what that's doing to the fanbase. That just makes it even more critical to win at least six next year. Let's hope some of these positive signs turn into actual wins.

Six wins next year would give Collins the same win total in 4 years as what the natty winner will likely have this year.

There is no case to be made. He’s done here. It’s simply a matter of when. Todd’s dumbass has given himself a Hobson’s choice of big buyout or bottomed out revenues.

I hope the money guys are meeting for dinner tonight to discuss who pays what and who gets hired.

Here's the kill shot for a defensive minded HC:

the fourth consecutive game that Tech’s opponent has recorded its season high for total offense against FBS competition or all opponents

Who wants to bet that 4th consecutive game becomes the 6th consecutive?

Gary Patterson or Tom Herman please.
A big donor should absolutely throw a 7 figure number at Gary Patterson to come in here for a year or two and give our defense a fighting chance. That would be a lot better use of the funds than a buyout. I think Collins is doing a decent job at the figure head/cheerleader role (Dabo model)… needs more on the coaching side. He sure doesn’t have a set it and forget it coordinator type like Brent Venables.

I don't agree that Xs and Os is the problem. If GP can come in and set the practice agenda, film sessions, etc and bring his own staff as HCIW then yes.

  • Overall team discipline has improved (less penalties)
  • I think he’s a coach that genuinely wants to be here and one that we could build around for years to come
  • Recruiting is improving even though it hasn’t completely showed just yet. 5 four stars committed in the current recruiting class.
  • No off the field issues or classroom issues
  • All the marketing and branding we didn’t have before will pop once we begin to win more consistently
  • Offense has improved and is more diverse. We look like a team that can actually throw a forward pass.
  • A lot of offensive talent coming back next year. I think it’s fair to assume continued growth on that side of the ball.
  • He‘s had successful defenses in the past, so the ability to produce is there. Maybe he gets more hands on in the off season?
  • Through all of this he hasn’t lost the locker room. That speaks volumes if we were being honest when kids aren’t playing the blame game on each other or directing toward the coaches.
  • Frustrating we haven’t seen it on the scoreboard yet but the team has improved since year 1 for this staff. We could have won several more games this year that would have given us a completely different outlook on the future.
  • Special teams have gotten better overall. The kickoffs are reaching the end zone and if a team takes it out I don’t just assume they’ll be starting at the 35/40 like I would before. Still need a field goal kicker but current one is a slight improvement over last year.
  • I believe the current staff has the ability and acumen to improve. They are a group of smart men. Collins is still young in his tenure as a head coach and will get it figured out.
Let’s see how we finish the year. Let’s see how the team and recruiting class continues to react to the adversity. I personally don’t want major turnover on the staff. If and when a decision is made to move on I would then want them all gone. They need to get it figured out as a unit. THWG and in time we are going to forget about these down years. Like a good stock sometimes patience pays off with exponential growth.
You are definitely more optimistic (or resigned to reality) than many of us. Although I agree with some of your points, I do not agree with all of them, and, based on yesterday's game, we definitely did not have less penalties, and, unlike in some prior games, those penalties were not bogus calls by the refs.

Yes please. Anything to get away from whatever is clearly not working between Saturdays.

I said it after last year too. CGC and his staff need to get professional consulting or help in the area of week prep. They are unprofessional and ineffective.

At this point, empty seats will cost us more than a buyout.
In reputation and with recruits, yeah. But financially, I'm not sure about that. Let's say a new coach brings in an extra 10000 season ticket sales next year (which I consider to be very optimistic unless we landed some superstar coach). At $300/ticket (cheapest this year, I believe), that would be $3 million. Costs more than that to fire him and replace him.

Whatever it is that you are smoking, I need some stat …

I’d genuinely take the job for a couple million a year too. I’d fake it as long as I could until it became obvious that I’ve never coached football before.

Can we at least for our next coach get someone that can spell his name right? That’s where we went wrong.

Damn, the worst kind of juice

Have y'all watched TCU the last few years? He's lost touch with the players and with the modern game. He's done as a coach, he won't fix anything if we bring him in.
