I am real worried about Tech being left out in the cold, and I love Tech. In my opinion, if Tech doesn't get in The Big Ten or the SEC, our athletic program may be lost. I check for developments all the time, and I don't see much encouraging news or even speculation out there. So, if I were Tech, I would try this.

The only real shot I see for Tech to get in the Big Ten or the SEC, especially soon, is to give one of those conferences the one thing that would make either of those conferences take us, even grudgingly. That thing is Notre Dame. Tech could contact ND at the Presidential level and say, "Look, we're in desperate shape athletically. We really need to get in one of these two secure conferences right now. We need your help. So, if you pick which one of the conferences you want to join and tell them you'll join, if they take Tech when they take you, we'll agree to take a 60 percent share, so you can get a 140 percent share for 15 years. Then, we'll take 10 percent of our 60 percent share and pay it to the ACC for 10 or less years to negotiate our way out of the ACC GOR. Now, is this ideal? No. But, would it give Tech athletics long term security in one of the two big time conferences? Yes. So, we'd be eating some humble pie. But, at least we'd be eating, getting more than we'd get from the ACC, and be secure for good, and get this done now. I think ND might help us. In my opinion, we are on the outside looking in, based on everything I hear. I think we need athletic security now. And I think ND, not the Big Ten or the SEC, is who we should turn to to help us. If we don't get creative and proactive, we're left in a small time football conference, and I don't want to see that. Oh yea, I would also tell ND we'd support any other teams they wanted to see get in whichever of these Power Two conferences they choose. Well, that's what I'd do. I think it's our best shot for survival.

Agree 100%. There is no doubt the ACC is now where the Big East was 2 decades ago. It is dead, at least in football. Clemson, Florida State, and Miami will leave.

I did not think about the Notre Dame angle. But it’s a very good idea.

For the first time in our history, Georgia Tech is on the cusp of facing a very firm reality that we will just drop the University of Georgia from our schedule because we will never have a chance of ever even playing them an even close game.

I agree the ACC is dead solely based on the fact that none of the schools fan pages are discussing how to save the ACC. Clemson, UM, UNC, even VT who has fallen off, all are talking about how to get out of the ACC. FSU will be the 1st to fall because as I recall they publicly opposed the GOR until they realized they had no choice.

The fact is the money difference is too great. When Florida's conference share is $50mil and FSU's is $20mil, the powers in Florida's legislature won't stand for it. And we're in no different shape. Sure uga has been the dominant fan base in Georgia for 50 years but at least in the 90's we were competing on a level playing field. Now we're literally like MTSU going up against UT. Might occasionally win games in a few different sports but we're not in the same realm.

You kinda lost me with "at the Presidential level". How would we know Cabrera even cares, because we don't hear squat from him? Tech's Presidents as a rule, haven't been a friend to the football program (some exceptions). I give you high marks though for thinking out of the box.

Occasionally win games in few different sports? We’ve been beating them in basically everything other than football the last year. They kind of suck outside of football.

Over the last 54 years, only 14 times have teams outside a group of 20 teams even made the top 3. And 32 teams have accounted for all 162 top 3 spots in the final AP poll. Those 20 teams have 52 of the 54 AP titles, Tony Dorsett's Pitt team and BYU being the exceptions.

I want to go B1G too, but we don't have to do it immediately. The ACC is still intact. We just have to be on their list when they are ready to add more.

This is why the GOR won’t hold. How can you have a conference when the schools that make up that conference don’t want to be there? Does anyone want a decade of teams bad mouthing and protesting their own conference? We’ve all seen how the narrative always wins and those being protested against always cave. So will the ACC. Can ypu imagine an ACC Champ game where Clemson and say VT take off the ACC patch. Or refuse to take the field for the 2nd half. Does the ACC office really want a hostage situation for 15 years?

Presidents choose conferences, not ADS.

I doubt it would actually work, but similarly the ACC could try to lure ND with money.I have doubts about this too.
Adding ND and another team with 15 taking a 3% pay cut would give ND a 145% share(other options also possible).
Thats probably enough to get third best TV revenue and warrant an auto bid if the CFP ever expands enough for that.

That is the worst plan I have ever seen written down. I think we just stay in the ACC, continue to play in the ACC, and not be a bunch of simpering weenies... trying to wave the white flag of surrender while riding the coat tails of Notre freaking Dame into another conference... What jackassery.

This may be the most ridiculous post I’ve ever read on Stingtalk. Refuse to take the field for the second half? No wonder conspiracy theories abound now in America.

There has been a lot of ridiculous posts lately. This one is near the top.

From the OP who brought us "Nell Fortner for head football coach". So this idea isn't nearly as wild. Credit for thinking wayyyy outside the box.
