A question that has been bugging me

Here's another important tidbit when comparing GT and Nebraska:

Nebraska's 2007 athletic budget: $68.9M
GT's 2006 athletic budget: ~$30M (couldn't find 2007 numbers)

To me, a successful GT FB program should be a long term winning percentage of win 75% of our games. To save some of you from looking for your calculator, that is averaging 9-3 seasons. 7-5 seasons is only 58% and should not be acceptable by any means. But I also think the program is in better shape now than when Gailey took over, by far. So considering that, he deserves some slack for a couple more years to come at least. He has proven that GT can recruit in the state with UGA. He has proven it is possible to win the ACC championship at GT, barring a dumb ass OC and his dumb ass play calling. And has done this in spite of flunkgate and without a Div 1A QB (his own fault). Whether he can take the next step remains to be seen. In the mean time, I am going to celebrate our wins, bitch about our losses, and watch with interest how DRad decides how to get us to that next level.

wow....talk about a difference...and money makes a difference.

Just look at how much Alabama is paying Geoff collins....he makes more than any coach we have except Tenuta and he is not even on the field!

Please define 'long term.' 10 years?

AFTER you define 'long term,' please give me a list of teams who have maintained a 75% winning percentage over your expected timeframe. I think you'll be quite surprised with how irrational your expectations turn out to be.

This is the most rational bogey post I've ever read, so I am hesitant to call out the 75% myself.

I doubt UGA has a 10 year win % like that. Texas probably has the best...

Also, to be 9-3 long term we need to stop scheduling competitive non-conference games. I get a funny feeling the same fans who think 9-3 is average want to play Tennessee and Auburn every year.

9-3 is a long term goal to shoot for, nothing more, nothing less. If you strive for mediocrity, that is exactly what you will get, or less.

We have had 4 gimme wins every year versus 2 chump OOC teams, plus Duke & UNC that would be chump OOC teams except they just happen to be in our conference. It should not be that hard to go 3-5 versus the remaining 8.
