A sad fact about Tech fans, alumns, and

hivered,I defer to the judgement of Gt football...

I am a former student-athlete....and I will pick winning the ACC Championship Game and going to the BCS over a win against UGA any day.

Beating UGA is the second most important thing to me.

players on this board when they say that a win over Ga. is more important than an ACC championship.Myself, I share that opinion. After all, even Wake won an ACC championship last year. That wouldn't happen in the Big 12, SEC, Pac-10, etc.You refer to yourself as a "student-athlete".. am I correct in assuming that the sport you played wasn't football? (My assumption is based on the observation that Nate,John and the others clearly identify the sport that they played at Tech).

I read a lot of statements that coincide with my feelings about beating UGA being the most important. But if I am DRad, and I look over BDS last Saturday night and see as much or more red than gold, I gotta wonder. If the UGA game was so important to us, where were the fans? Staying home in protest? Absurb notion.

If I live to be 100, I'll never get over the humiliation -- not of the seventh straight loss, but of the way the stadium looked last Saturday -- bathed in a sea of red.

Well..you have to win the ACC Championship to win the National Championship these days. You do not have to beat UGA to do so.

I would rather win a National Title. I guess I am nuts.

I don't think winning a NC is even a remote possibility when we have an ongoing losing streak against our in state rival. How many National Champions have we had that lost to their in state rival? Florida is one; but they had to beat FSU in the rematch championship game.

Second we all know exactly how long it has been since we beat UGA. How many of us know or even care how long it has been since we won the ACC? The fact most have to go look up when we last won the ACC Championship tells you right away that the UGA game is much more important to the fans than the ACC Championship.

We need to win the STATE Championship before we can worry about the NATIONAL Championship.

Agree.

Those who state that beating UGA is less important than winning the ACC are setting up a false choice.

It is sour grapes, pure and simple, to say that a game you haven't won in quite awhile doesn't matter to you. I think those diminishing the importance of beating UGA should review Aesop's Fables.

We won't win the ACC or the MNC, or anything, until we restore the attitude that beating our rival is important. There is a reason that there is a book dedicated to the UGA - GT rivalry and no other GT rivalry.

This is a year where it easily could have happened...winning the ACC but losing to your state rival could product a natl championship.

Just look at the finalists. There are only 4 teams in the BCS conferences with less than 2 losses....and no one is undefeated. It could happen.

The entire discussion is stupid anyway because the two are not mutually exclusive.

The same people complaining that the UGA should be seen as more important than anything else are also the same folks that complain we do not get up for the games against lesser opponents.

Wake wouldn't win in the Big 12 or SEC this year, but Wake is at least the equal of UCLA which could go to the Rose bowl. Conferences are up and down. Northwestern won the Big 10 back in the 90's.

Over the past three years we have really squandered an opportunity to win the ACC. The last two years is really about as down as the ACC can get. We are going to have to pick our game up a notch just to stay even.

That is not evident by what I read on this board.

its evident in other places

Yes crazy enough that a message board doesn't reflect real life. It is evident in 5 alumni (all 28-32 all making 80-200K a year) sitting around on Saturday, all football fans, all at my loft 2 miles from campus - not even caring about our team. There is no passion for a lame duck coach, who runs a boring offense with no hope of keeping up with GA's. There is no passion for a coach that loses to Duke, loses to our rival 7 times in a row, never addresses the most important position on the field, for an offense who may have set a record for punting attempts, for a coach who can't win a won game against Maryland while I am at a wedding between a Maryland grad and a Tech grad and have to have 58 people laugh at me and the groom about our dumb pitiful team. Joe Hamilton said it best, he said (paraphrasing) that the GA Tech offense he knew was an attacking offense, and this one sits around waiting not to lose. I was waiting for the Missouri game, they run an awesome offense. We aren't even in Missouri's league. Sad.

Here is a really sad fact about Georgia Tech-----there are fans among us that hold your viewpoint.
