The ACC, along with Tech is about to be left further behind the elite conference players. Even further behind than Rutgers!

NBC is making a big push for Big 10 football. What other team does NBC have that is in Big 10 territory? Hmmm...

NBC sucks, I’ll stick with the network that airs half its games on a network that not a ton of TV companies carry and the other half just blacked out in our area even though we’re the area the team is in

What is going to really hurt the ACC is the fact the TV contract run through 2035(?) while other conferences are running out much sooner so they can renegotiate for higher fees.

I don’t think that 4-5 years from now, TV companies will want to renew the ACCN. And if they do, it’ll probably be for cheaper.

Tech has been behind Rutgers for a bit now TR. They got an offer from the B1G and accepted it. On the football field, they would have beat us soundly last year, and they have a real developmental football coach (the guy I wanted Tech to hire) who has proven that he overachieves with lesser talent. Their basketball team made the tourney last year and won a game, and I think they've beaten 3 ranked teams in a row at the moment.

I'd kill for our programs to look like Rutgers right now.

Hmmm? Left behind? Never thought about it in reference to GT football, but that is very apropos. I think the CFB world is leaving us and many other teams behind. There will be little parity, and the haves will have, and the have nots will only have until the haves recruit their players.

I think you overestimate the people making these decisions. They're the ones who made the ACC Network, nobody asked them for it. Nobody.

I said years ago Tech should have jumped ship to the B1G—-there was a window of opportunity under DRad. But we foolishly chose to stay behind in a terrible football conference run by The Carolina boys. Decisions have consequences. We’re stuck in this awful excuse for a football conference. It’s going to kill us. No good players want to play in the ACC.

The problem is simply that the ACC does not have enough marquee matchups. Duke-Carolina is great... in basketball. What is the biggest marque matchup in the ACC? FSU-Miami? Clemson-FSU? Would certainly have to be one of those two. In the B1G sure they have their lackluster games. No one cares about Rutgers vs Indiana or Purdue vs Northwestern. But they have multiple schools with huge alumni bases that fill 80,000+ seat stadiums and will watch all of their games. They have bigger alumni bases than even most SEC schools although I would argue the SEC has far more sidewalk alumni than any B1G school with the possible exception of OSU.

ACC? How many schools have 80,000+ seat stadiums? FSU and Clemson, any others? No attendance doesn't' drive revenue like it used to but the fact those schools can support the need for large stadiums speaks to fans interest. Pitt has a huge stadium only because they share with the Steelers. Miami also shares an NFL stadium but fans don't show up until they are 6-0 or better. Reality is, football is driving revenue and the interest in ACC football is nonexistent. I could sit and watch LSU-Florida even though I have no interest in either team. I'm not going to watch NC State play Syracuse and I think most here probably agree.

I don't know what the solution is but I think it will come to a head soon when SEC money starts coming in. FSU and Miami aren't going to sit by while Florida brings in 20mil+ more in media revenue. They could try and sue ACC for breach of contract for not providing as competitive of a platform and then bolt for the SEC. Would that give Tech an out to go to the B1G? Does that conference want GT football?

Haven’t you heard? No one can leave the ACC for like 25 years because of a contract. Don’t you realize contracts always last forever and are never renegotiated.

I hope we can sell GT to the Big 10 based on the recruiting territory and Atlanta road games. The revenue from the media package and ticket sales should help get us out of our financial hole. Then we have to get coaches who can win.

I've always heard hopes and wishes and theorizing, but have never heard a plausible scenario wherein both we and the B1G are in favor of us joining. Why would/wouldn't they want us?

Advantages for the Big 10
1) The Big 10 teams get exposure in a prime recruiting territory. They can invite potential recruits to attend their games in Atlanta.
2) There are large numbers of Big 10 alumni in Atlanta and the Southeast that would be able to see their teams play without traveling long distances.
3) We fit their academic profile better than any other potential addition.
4) The Big 10 teams get to play late season games in an area that is less likely to be frozen.
Advantages for Tech
1) The TV payout goes up substantially.
2) We sell more tickets because of the Big 10 alumni in the area.
3) We can attract better recruits because of the overall level of competition.
4) The Hill should be pleased by the higher academic profile of the Big 10 schools.

good points here. I think your point number 2 for B10 advantage, could also potentially work against us. A lot of this comes down to TV subs and viewers. B10 alum here in the ATL area will likely already have the B10 network and honestly, adding Tech wouldn't be the reason enough for adding for those that don't yet.

This is a business deal and I just question our ability to drive rev enough to justify such an addition. Would love to be wrong though.
