Yeah, I also see that JT is and has been our best option, no doubt there. He is also the best we've had at putting lateral pressure on the defense, as he simply gets toward the edge faster than anyone we have had. He also has the best arm skills short of perhaps Vad.I actually think Byerly would have played some this year, if only as a change of pace and opportunity for JT to rest. It's pretty obvious that JT is rattled and beat up at times. I'm not an idiot - I realize that JT is our best option (pun intended) and possibly the best 3O QB we've had, but it's not unreasonable to wonder how much better we'd be at executing death marches with a big QB who could get 2-3 more yards after contact than JT every time.
I think Matt Jordan is most likely in line for QB next year, and that's fine by me. Probably not news to anyone, I know. He will give us a smashmouth look similar to what Byerly/Nesbitt did. We will play more up the middle, ball possession, 'boring' games. It's not an exciting thought but it might be our best chance to win games. Though the WR's and AB's aren't as good as we've had (and they aren't), the OL and BB are shaping up to be pretty nice going forward. This is the logical way forward based on where we are skrong. We can already see CPJ's play-calling trending in this direction....he's focusing on getting the ball to Mills on a lot of non-option plays, runs to the B-gap, etc. Mills got 19 carries in a game where Miami wanted to crash the middle but never really defended the rocket toss. He loves that kid and I can see why. He's going to be awesome.
As far as the other QB's on the roster, TaQuon has a similar game/body to JT (with perhaps less arm), and Lucas's game would appear to be more Vad Lee - esque. I'm not sure either one is really ready either. CPJ will have some tough decisions as to which direction he would like to go, as each of the future QB options really bring unique things to the table.
