Academic myths...

Re: It must suck to be so wrong.

I've never heard of a problem. I knew a few guys who tutored there while I was a student. Never heard any complaints from them about having too many guys to tutor, and they for the most part seemed pretty happy, and well compensated for the service they were providing. No idea if things have changed significantly in the last year though.

I laid out ALL of the availabe majors several years ago, and no one could disagree with my premise that we absolutely offrer many AND most "liberal" degrees.

I did a quick perusal of UGA's football squad, and one of the more popular majors seems to be "Recreation and Leisure Studies". My own poor powers of observation were insufficient to find something equivalent at Georgia Tech, but I'm sure since you speak with of a voice of such authority and condescension you can set me straight.

... individual degrees may be ... little bit harder than at other schools.

Sir, you have a gift for understatement.

This academic talk is nothing more than crap.

Particularly the part you contributed.

"If academices was the end all be all, then Mississippi State would be winning MNCs". And I'm gone...........

Hmmm ... disappointing ... I would have thought Tech graduates were required to develop an understanding of the concept of necessary and sufficient conditions. Clearly you did not.

Let me give you a little tutorial:

Oxygen is necessary for human life. Now, armed with this dangerous bit of knowledge, you and Chuck would apparently conclude that the optimum living condition is therefore to be enclosed in a sealed room of pure oxygen forever. Sadly, if you acted on your conclusion, you would soon be dead, and rather more quickly if you happened to do it at a pressure above 2 atmospheres.

You see, oxygen is necessary for human survival, but it is not sufficient. If this brief illustration has not explained necessary and sufficient conditions well enough for your comprehension, please let me know and I can provide more help.

There are a ton of true statements in this thread.

That is just more proof that as a HC we need someone who is a GREAT recruiter first. Someone who can close the deal on S/As that can get the total job done. Are we there?

mm42,

thanks again for proving why the internet easily lends itself to the age old tactic that when you can't actually debate with logic and reason then you simply attack the person you disagree with. You must have a really big keyboard.

You nicely selected only certain parts of my post and tried to place them in context that wasn't there. Nice try, but that dog don't hunt here.

1)Not once did I say we have EQUIVALENTS. I said we had majors that are ATTRACTIVE to LOTS of CANDIDATES. You are a Tech grad, so I understand why you struggle with reading and comprehension in a literative form. Its not your fault.

2)Why did you leave out the part in parens? Apparently your keyboard is there to do nothing but attack other GT supporters.

3)How funny that my "contributions" are crap, yet you haven't bothered to contribute anything other than attacking people who say things you don't like. I hope your degrees provided you more skills than that.

4)I'm not sure what the point of your diatribe on Oxygen was, but please feel free to elaborate on how it relates to college football.

Now that we have addressed the personal issues which you seem to have, would you care to discuss the supposed (in my humble opinion) academic issues that now have forced us to accept the current state of affairs as the best we can EVER do.

Do you feel attacked? You have a mighty big victim syndrome, don't you? Note: Asking questions you don't want to answer is not an attack.

I'm trying logic and reason, but you are either disinclined or incapable of following it.

That's not what you said, you said we offer "many and MOST liberal degrees". The MOST part is a falsehood, and is a complete falsehood when applied to the majors favored by football players. I gave an example - naturally you sidestepped it. I can give several more, but why bother since you can just sidestep any rational argument?

If I were you I suppose I would whine that this was an ATTACK.

It didn't change the absurdity of your statement any.

Apparently arguments against your positions are "attacks".

Well, I was trying to teach you something via an analogy. Obviously you didn't understand it. I suggest a Google search on "necessary and sufficient" - maybe a web tutorial will accomplish what I did not.
