ACC, B1G, and Pac-12 alliance announcement- I fixed it

Sounds like it might come to nothing or might have limited impact on football scheduling, but I’d love to have some new home-and-homes for the opportunity to see us play in some new places out west.

I couldn't tell from the article if this amounts to anything more than a strongly worded memo. I think in the eyes of the Pac12 that may mean something because they're a bunch of bureaucratic limp wrists. Hopefully it morphs into an NCAA alternative.
That's all it can be in my mind. There's absolutely nothing stopping these teams from scheduling each other now.

We need to get rid of FCS games, max of 1 non power 5 game (preferably zero), and quit scheduling with SEC. The problem is that everyone is scheduled so far out that this wouldn't have any impact for a few years.

Its more than that. This is a shot across the bow of the SEC. In my opinion, this may spell the end of the CFP. If the new B3G conducts its own Championship playoff and shuts out the SEC then the SEC will be left with asserting that their conference champ is the National Champ (a dubious position) while the B3G can conduct an actual playoff among its member conferences which, I think, would carry more weight.

This could potentially be the beginning of the end of the SEC - they would be reduced to an NFL feeder system. If all B3G teams refuse to play any SEC teams, they will have no point of reference to claim superiority. It would mean the end of the dwag game but with each passing year, my enthusiasm for that game wanes a small amount.

The SEC thinks its bigger then college football and it may have overplayed its hand.

Lol, no.

100%. I don’t recall anyone missing FCS games in 2020. It was great how it was real games from week 1 on.
This would result in, on average, one less home game every other year. As a fan, I think the tradeoff is worth it for the better games but just pointing out a downside. There would probably be a small net reduction in revenue due to losing that home game, too.

I’m willing to bet the economics would be favorable to dropping FCS games if you negotiate a TV package that sells the rights to ACC/Big10/PAC 12 cross conference games.

FCS games are a break even at best at Georgia Tech. They have more value at powerhouse programs that can pack the house while still charging a premium to ticket holders willing to watch an assreaming. GT will likely give away free tickets to anyone that will show up vs NIU and KSU.

The FCS games are the ones that non-season ticket holding mutts go to and thump their chest about going to a mutt game like it’s a big deal.

Perhaps the economics will work to our favor (and I hope they do!) But if Tech has only been breaking even on the FCS games, they've really been missing an opportunity to schedule better opponents. Maybe Tech sees the extra home games as a source of goodwill with the fanbase? Or maybe it's just as simple as the win-total padding? Would be interesting to know all the considerations that go into those decisions.

Right. Um... that’s not happening. No championship that doesn’t include the SEC will be considered legitimate.
