I don't understand the whole idea that where you build your HQ turns you into some 15th Century explorer planting a flag in the ground.

Why would the ACC HQ in Atlanta be notably embarrassing in the shadow of the SEC?
Why would the ACC HQ in Charlotte mean we own Charlotte?

The only thing that matters is accessibility for media. In Atlanta, media is there or can send someone to interview coaches at the annual meeting. In Greensboro, you send an intern instead of a personality and they blow off the trip and phone it in instead... unless you really care about the reports from the radio stations in High Point or Farmville.

Fact: the ACC is the only p5 conference with a team in Atlanta.

The SEC may do things in Atlanta but the conference can make it an ACC city. You don't win the game you don't play.

Don't forget Greensboro is a lot closer to Mount Airy, NC. The actual birthplace of Andy Griffith and mythical inspiration for Mayberry, which is many times the mindset of the ACC.
