1)Who will be the biggest suprise in the 2009 ACC Football season?

2)Is there a Chance in the Next 3-5 seasons that Boston College will return to the Big East if asked(If read rumors that they would, lots of their Fans think they're ignored in the ACC)?

My opinions:

1)I think Duke shocks and finishes 6-6,possibly qualifying for a Minor Bowl.
2)I think Boston College would go back to the Big East if asked, they've got no rivals and it's a very long trip to games for their Fans.

I think the biggest surprise in the ACC will be VPISU tanking and turning in a mediocre season.

How much money is the Big East going to throw at BC?

(1) There are many surprises that can occur: VT might end up sucking and UVA may not suck as bad as they are supposed to.

(2) I doubt it.

I can't see the BE having all that much money, they don't even have a football team in the Preseason top 25.

Eh, I don't think they'll go. They've got their old Big East rivals here in the ACC with VT, FSU, and Miami. The Big East filed a complaint to the NCAA back in the early 2000's about the ACC weakening their conference too, by the way.

And I don't think BC is ignored. Yeah, they don't get a lot of coverage, but they've gone to the ACC Championship 2 years in a row.

As for travel time? It's basically the same situation UMiami is in. FSU is the closest game for them, and Tallahassee is a 7-hour drive from Miami.

Surprise team? How about the entire state of North Carolina. Wake Forest, Duke, NC State, and UNC. UNC is expected to do big things, but WF an NCStU have been flying WAY under the radar the past couple of years.

As for travel time? It's nothing compared to Miami. FSU is the closest game for them, and Tallahassee is a 7-hour drive from Miami. BC has Maryland, VT, and UVA in striking distance (although the last two are in the Coastal Division) But even a drive to UNC/Duke/NC State would be shorter that UM to FSU.

It's amazing how Wake Forest has strung winning seasons together like they have. Not long ago I would have thought it possible for them.

The BC (or the Big East) would first have to come up with something like $10-11M to buy out of the ACC, so they aren't going anywhere. Everyone seems to forget that after the last round of realignment, pretty much every league put in some pretty serious financial penalties for teams leaving. The ACC's IIRC is something like 1 year of conference payout. They'd be fools to even consider leaving.

1) A healthy NC State is scarier than most are giving credit for

2) BC wont leave

Indeed, as someone who lives in south Florida and goes to Tech, do not underestimate the length of Florida. A trip from the Keys to Jacksonville might rival a crossing of Texas (but wouldn't beat it, Texas is ****ing huge).

I'm not sold on UNC yet. Their defense will be pretty good but I'm not convinced their offense won't be mediocre, a combination that might finally fail in the ACC this year with many teams working to improve offensively (us, FSU, NC St and VPI come to mind).

I hope NCSU pounds South Carolina.

FYI, Boston is a 7-8 hour drive to DC, home of their closest opponent, Maryland. Tobacco Road is an extra 4-5 hours away.

Why would BC even want to leave? They have been pretty dominant in ACC football since joining the league. You cant use the distance and travel thing b/c I'm sure they were well aware of that before moving.

Texarkana, TX is about 150 miles closer to Atlanta, GA, that it is to El Paso, TX (and that includes going almost straight down to Shreveport before startingeast to Atlanta - it's even more difference as the crow flies).

Tallahassee is 200 miles closer to Atlanta than it is to Miami.

Yeah, originally I said it might rival crossing Texas, never beat it.

We now have a thread devoted to pointing out that Texas is a geographically large state.:pat:
Man oh man, it is TIME for some ****ING FOOTBALL.
