In HDs blog over on ESPN it says we're ditching the Gator Bowl and the Champs sports bowl will now have the ACC #3 to face the top non-BCS team from the Big East or ND.

Feelings?

I don't like that we are losing a more traditional bowl like the Gator, but oh well. The ACC has had more success with the Champs Sports Bowl.

Face facts. We are basically Conference USA right now. We are not very attractive as a conference to post season events.

I hate to lose the Gator Bowl too but it was Big East and ND.
I also hate that the Champs bowl loses the Big Ten vs ACC.
Oh well

Yeah,
From top to bottom the fan bases aren't going to fill staduims in Florida.

So who's the Gator affiliation now? Big Xii and Big (sic) East?

I wish they would have "The Bayou Get drunk and get laid" bowl to take the place of the smurf bowl and then we could have a reason to be happy if our team tanks at the end of the year.

You know one game that has been entertaining the last few years that no one talks about is the Alamo Bowl.
It's Big Ten vs Big 12 and has been a dog fight the last few years.

The Gator Bowl isn't what it used to be, and neither is the ACC. I'd like to see the Champs Sports Bowl get a better sponsor that doesn't sound like such garbage, but I like the location a lot better than that hell-hole Jacksonville.

Though I would have rather seen the Music City Bowl get a bump up.

I do like that we've got ties with the Sun Bowl now. I know it's a ****ty location, but it's at least got a long history. I hope we never go there, but if we do I'll be going.

Not anymore.... Alamo Bowl is going to be Big 12/Pac 10 in the future. They are shelling out the big bucks to move up in the pecking order to taking the Holiday Bowl (San Diego) previous slots. They are getting the No. 2 team out the Pac 10.

I completely agree w/ your sentiments about the Gator Bowl. I have never been a fan of Jacksonville. When you go to the bowl, there isn't anything to do except go to the game. If we go to the Sun Bowl, I'll be there. Have no idea where it is, but assuming it's in AZ/NM/TX.

El Paso, TX

Never been there, but if we ever go then don't get lost and cross to Juarez, Mexico.

Ouch, here's some disrespect from Jacksonville:

I'll put it into a perspective that former Times-Union colleague and Jacksonville radio host Frank Frangie offered up on the air recently: Consider the following eight teams -- Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina, Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Mississippi. The Gator Bowl is pretty much assured of getting one of those teams every year. Wouldn't that be better than having to agonize over Virginia, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech or Boston College?

F*ck you too, asshole.

Ah that's right. I knew the ACC wanted to keep the same number of bowls, I had forgotten that we were looking to get into the Sun Bowl vs the Pac 10.

GT-ND was one of the Gator's finest moments. GT then did well for a team playing there a second year in a row. The U did a terrible job getting fans there.

The Gator was hurt by getting teams that had lost in the championship game. We did as well as could be expected in supporting our team after the Wake Forest loss.

I like the Gator Bowl. It was a New Year's Day game. The ACC will mss having its #3 in a bowl that is that city's second biggest bowl.

With the SEC picking up the Gator slot, Swofford was asleep at the wheel in not at least trying to get us into Tampa or Orlando on New Year's Day.

The Sun Bowl is a good bowl, just a long way away. I agree that the profile of the Nashville Bowl can improve.

And therein lies the problem of the Gator Bowl. The ACC schools who would sell their allotment and beyond were Clemson, FSU and Tech. And they were too dumb to know it. The only time we didn't sell more than our allotment was the return game after the ACCCG.

If the Music City and to a lesser degree CFA don't do a better job of finding impartial officials, their bowls will slide down the interest chain.
