ACC = Slightly better than MAC?

Big 10 is worse than the ACC. When a league isn't top heavy it's considered weak (except for the SEC of course).

I can agree with that. A conference having one true national title contender that loses every time they get there nowadays, should not be considered a strong conference. They don't have the stress of a conference title game, either.

This is the article by Gregg Doyel at cbssportsline.com.

http://www.sportsline.com/collegefootball/story/10904466

"Virginia Tech and Boston College are the only teams keeping the ACC above the MAC. Considering that, expansion went right."

What is the consensus here regarding this topic?

Everyone seems to love dogging the ACC...

Doyal is a knothead. Yes, the ACC has been down recently, but is clearly the 3rd/4th best conference even in down years. Top to bottom, we're better than the Big Ten (+1) and the Big East. The SEC, PAC10 and maybe the B12 are all better than the ACC the past few years. But that's a long way from the MAC.

It's extremely trendy to take a mediocre, unproven conference and say that it's on the rise and then take a mediocre, storied conference and say it's about to get lapped by the former.

Unless, of course, that conference is the Big Ten, in which case it's a SLEEPING GIANT THE TRUEST OF THE BEST RIVALRIES IN ALL OF SPORTS WOLVERINES VS. BUCKEYES M CLUB SUPPORTS YOU DOT THE I MOTHER****ER DOT IT

Back on topic,

What are the records of the ACC and the MAC in BCS bowls over the last decade?

I know the ACC's isn't particularly good.

Really shows you the desperation of sportsline if they have to resort to sensationalism.

ACC is 1-9 in BCS bowls since it's inception I believe. Of course this information comes from mayhem in the am.

In an era when Appalachian State is able to beat Michigan in Ann Arbor, I would say that the best conference in college football probably is only slightly better than the worst conference.

The ACC needs to improve, but changes are being made with new coaches at several schools. It may take some time to see whether the changes are effective.

what adds to the argument that the ACC is barely above the bottom of the power conferences is that the football isn't particularly pleasing to watch....it's down right brutal to watch alot of times

perception borders on reality when it comes to the past few years in the acc

I wasn't trying to impress you, bobbin. If I was, I would have feigned ADD and started a thread about what would have happened if it was us that was given the death penalty instead of SMU.

So strike a match on the brick that JD shoved up your ass a few days ago and light yourself on fire.

another gauge is the inter-conference games for ACC, any stats on that?

1-9: The ACC's record in BCS Bowl games. The league has only won once on college football's biggest stage and that came when Florida State beat Virginia Tech, which then was not a league member, in the Sugar Bowl for the 1999 national championship. The ACC has lost nine straight BCS games.
2-17: The ACC's record against non-conference teams ranked in the Top 10 over the past four years.
9-31: The ACC's record against non-conference teams ranked in the Top 25 the past four years.
0: The number of times the ACC has received an at-large bid to a BCS game.

All time stats, acc vs other conferences:

Conference Win Loss Tie Pct.
Big 12 Conference 125 115 0 0.52083
Big East Conference 375 273 13 0.57716
Big Ten Conference 101 174 5 0.36964
Conference USA 277 168 13 0.619
Division I-A Independent 171 218 8 0.44081
Mid-American Athletic Conference 147 27 3 0.83898
Mountain West Conference 50 33 0 0.60241
Pacific-10 Conference 38 44 1 0.46386
Southeastern Conference 747 905 83 0.45447
Sun Belt Conference 32 4 0 0.88889
Western Athletic Conference 20 5 1 0.78846

Couldn't find one by years, which would be a lot more indicative of where things are now. I tend to agree with the article though, ACC has been sucking hind tit for a while and its time for use to collectively get our crap together. Bowl records don't lie, and last year we fell behind the big televen and thats just pitiful considering how bad they are year in and out in bowls:
  1. SEC: 7-2
  2. Pac-10: 4-2
  3. Big 12: 5-3
  4. Big East: 3-2
  5. Big Ten: 3-5
  6. ACC: 2-6
We're bottom of the BCS, and while we're clearly better than the MAC and such, with the recent record we don't have room to talk any crap about the WAC.
