Local Bathhouse, Winston-Salem, NC. (BS).
ACC officials levied an unprecedented $100,000 fine and year-long suspension on the NCAA College Football Rulebook for its never ceasing critic1sm and disagreement with ACC officiating Crews. ACC commisioner, John Swofford said "the rulebook has engaged in non-stop critic!sm of our officials, including the definition of fieldgoals, holding, chop blocks, facemasks, helmet-to-helmet hits, and most recently, even our clock managment." He went on to add "this agression will not stand." Among the greivances cited by Swofford was the fact that neither his beloved Tarheels or Blue Devils had been competitive in the race for the ACC title.
Although the rulebook did not personally insult the officials, it contained language that cast doubt on most ACC calls, namely, the rules themselves.
Recruitment of officials has sagged in recent years. "We used to be able to walk-in to any bookies office, or the local bathhouse, and pick up folks," Swofford explained, "but recently Ron Cherry has been giving everyone the business and it has left folks hard up." Swofford vowed not to step down until his poor leadership cost the ACC its automatic BCS bid, so it could go back to being an overrated basketball conference.
