Looking at the ESPN boards, the MIA fan's are really going for GT this weekend for their chance at winning the coastal.

I thought if GT won out and VT won out and MIA won out, assuming GT beats VT this weekend, GT would get the go ahead because we beat VT. Is this incorrect?

I suddenly feel like maybe Wake can beat MIA as well as Clemson and maybe UNC.

I don't think you are right, but the bottom line is we have to win out if we want any chance of going to the ACC Championship. If we win out and don't go to the Championship, we may get in another BCS bowl anyways.

Short answer: The situation you describe is a three-way tie and we are not likely to win a three-way tie under the ACC's three-way-tiebreaker rules. We need to win out and for Miami to lose one of its 5 remaining ACC games to win.

I think the 3-way tie in the situation you describe would be broken by the "records of your Atlantic opponents" prong, which we cannot win. Either VPI wins that outright, or they get eliminated by it, in which case it becomes us and Miami head-to-head (because Miami and us have identical Atlantic opponents) which Miami wins because they beat us.

I think.

Here are the official tie-breaker rules:

I think the rule states if there is a 3-way tie, and one team didn't beat both other tied teams (ie: no clear head-to-head), that the winner is the team ranked higher in the BCS poll.

Miami loses a head-to-head with VT due to the loss. Their thinking is that if we both win out, they will be ranked higher in the BCS because they are currently higher ranked. IOW, we won't jump them by winning out, if they do, too.

FWIW, I think we could beat Miami if we played them today. We were stone-cold exhausted for that game.

I dunno... I'm just gonna let this one sort itself out. Maybe VT will lose 2 more and Miami will lose another one then we won't have to worry at all :fingersx:

You skipped the rule (#4) about the record of your other-division opponents. It only gets to the BCS if the records of GT's and UM's and VPI's Atlantic opponents are the same. GT's and UM's will be the same because we both played the exact same conference sched. VPI's is not the same. If the records are coincidentally the same, then yes, it goes to the BCS. If not, either VPI wins outright or gets eliminated, leaving us and Miami head-to-head, which Miami wins since they beat us.

If I am wrong about that, please someone let me know.

Who cares? At least if we and Miami win out it won't be VT representing the ACC again. I hate that they've been in 3 of the 4 games and won 2 of them. This isn't their conference god dammit.

If a three way tie occurs, Miami goes I believe. We need to be pulling for UVA to knock out Miami. Seriously. Once again UVA is improving by leaps and bounds after giving away their two annual early season losses to scrubs.

Improving, yes. But that's like saying the Ugandan Air Force improved. I'm not overly impressed by UVA's last two wins. They beat a sorry UNC team, and they beat bottom level Big Ten team. That's not gonna get it when they line up with Miami.

Still, this is why we play the games. UVA could pull off the upset. I mean, they beat us last year.
