Simmons easily led us in sacks (5.5) and tackles for loss (8). He's definitely the impact player. Victor Alexander was very workman like, led us in tackles with 60 and had 2 sacks. Looking at these defensive stats makes me sad.

87% of the time Duke has been more athletic than Tech which means without CPJ we would have lost 286-0.

Why play in front of 50k when you can play in front of 25k? Some guys like to hear themselves think.
 
Since 2014 Duke has signed more 4/5 star athletes that Georgia Tech; so go ahead and laugh about Duke but it really just highlights that we have recruiting issues.

GT has recruited 8 four-stars on defense since '14 , including '18 class.
Duke has recruited 6 four-stars on defense since '14, including '18 class.

That goes to 6 vs 3, if you exclude '18 since they're not signed.

Why are they almost 30 spots better than us in defensive efficiency rankings?

We haven't had a good defensive player since Jeremiah Attaochu, and he was wasted with scrub defensive coordinators.

BTW, I actually think Desmond Branch may be one of our better defensive players. I'd be interested to see what he could do with a better pass rush scheme and some help around him.

I count 8 vs 6 since '14 excluding '18; but that really doesn't change your question; maybe because they played FSU and Northwestern instead of Clemson and UGA? Playing us probably gave their defensive efficiency rating a 10 spot boost too, particularly that second half; while that same second half probably pushed us down 10 spots.
