All decommitment team

I've been thinking lately about all the de-commits due to the coaching change and want to put together an "all-decommitment/close to commitment" tech team only counting the past 5 years of recruiting (since the boom of recruiting sites have made it easier to track recruiting). This team would be composed of recruits that either commited to Tech and then backed off or came very close to commiting (Tech made the top 5 or top 3 for them). Below are some names I remember from the past 3 years, are they the best (in terms of their recruiting ranking at the time they committed) kids we missed on or am I missing more from this list (preferably 3* or better)?

CB-Carlos Thomas (USCeast)
QB/WR-Todd Walker (TTU)
WR-Chris Jackson (Bama)
QB-Sean Renfree (undecided)
WR-AJ Jenkins (Illini)
K-Gary Cismesia (FSU)
LB-Brandon Miller (Ugag)
LB-Lorenzo Edwards (UF)
RB-Maurice Wells (tOSU)
CB-Cedrick Everson (Iowa)
S-Jamar Honrsby (UF)
OL-Ian Yates-Cunningham (UVA)
DL-Demarcus Dodds (Ugag)
QB-Sherrod Harris (Texas)
LB-Antonio Clay (Clemson)
DE/LB- Chase Thomas (Standford)
QB-Marcus Jones (Duke)

Also who was the fullback that commited to Duke over us a few years back (maybe 05 or 06) and the lineman from Alabama (maybe Spain Park) that commited to us then took a grayshirt elsewhere?

NOTE: I'm not trying to stir up any controversy or slam our recruiting effort, just trying to remember some of the names I might have forgotten in past years from lost recruiting battles.

I have to be honest

I never thought Yates Cunningham, Chase Thomas or Mo Wells committed to tech. I know Maurice Wells didn't....He announced OSU and went that way....

Carlos thomas committed, but GT withdrew the scholly based on grades....so not sure if that is fair to call that a decommitment

Is this the chase thomas from Walton? I watched practice and a couple of games and just thought he was way too small. I might not be a good judge of talent though, he just didn't impress me.

I did mention that I also listed guys that had Tech in their top 5 or 3 but never committed. As a matter of fact most of these guys never committed to Tech but took serious looks (Dobbs had us in his top 2, Mo Wells had us in his top 5 since a relative of his was on the staff if I recall correctly, same goes for Hornsby, Harris, Thomas, Jones ect). However I am looking for the most highly ranked SA's that were the closest to commiting to us, any other names out there?

Just remembered a couple of more names.

Malachi Lewis(Oregon)
Darius Walker(ND)
Robert Drum (Duke)

The Duke fullback appears to be Brandon King (06 class) we lost him and Sherrod Harris back to back.

Have to tell you I don't know what the point of this exercise is. Every team in the country could put together a list of kids who "almost' went there. So what?

The funny thing is that none of those guys have produced much on the college level.

and Hornsby never committed to Tech.

Just an exercise in could've should've as well as an attempt to better understand where past quality recruits have come from, what team we have lost them to and the reassons why.

Also seeing how the recruiting talent we once pursued has panned out under other systems.

If you didn't follow the dawgs much then you certainly didn't hear much of Brandon Miller. I predict you will hear his name next year - alot.

Some of those folks we were never that close to getting (i.e. Jamar Hornsby)...or we did not push hard (Marcus Jones, Chase Thomas, etc.)...or we pulled their ship (Carlos Thomas, Cedric Everson).

The biggest last minute snub ever? ...

Courtney Brown to Penn State.

Pacman Jones (WVU)

Two things:
1) Glad we did not sign him
2) The new staff broke off communication with him after they took over and encouraged him to look elsewhere...on purpose. They took over after he had committed to the previous staff.

So do you have a list of players Hiver preferably 2002-2004, all the ones I recall are within the last 3 years?

1) Pacman went crazy as a grown man.
2) The guy would have been the best player on the team and we probably wouldn't be looking at 7 straight losses to UGA with a dynamic player like that on the roster.
3) he single handedly saves Gailey's 1st class.
4) If you spent any time around players from the late 90s, we had some "loose" cannons on those teams also.

Not that I advocate it...but at least those in the late 90's at GT ended just being dope smokers.
PacMan is a big-time criminal! Glad he was not a Jacket. Can you imagine if he had been in Hotlanta (his home) during his "college" years instead of the mountains of West Virginia??!!??!!...oh the trouble he could have caused!

Believe it or not I have a spreadsheet of visit dates going back 10 years...I only keep 10 years at a time...it is my record keeping policy! :laugher:

I do not have time to check it today....but maybe over the weekend or if I can't sleep tonight!
