I can understand all the frustration with Ted and his defenses. I am a friend of Ted’s and my brother played with him way back when.

I think Ted is a helluva a football coach. Do I think he could do some things different......I believe we all do. His defenses give up points at inopportune times and they seem to be killer points in regards to momentum or right after we score and so forth.

With that being said, what other successful programs are playing with defensive tackles who are outmanned by an average of 20-30 pounds? When is the last time we have had a big time DT that weighed at least 290? Look at all the teams around the country who are playing with 300-340 pound DT’s that can move.....I think we can all name several. How many programs are playing with corners that are under 6’ and can be called a lock down corner? I, as well as all of you, can name several I am sure. How many do we have? I mentioned this earlier, lockdown corners allow DC’s to expand what they can do with blitz packages and schemes. How many of our current LB’ers can play for a school in the top 25? I like Mitchell, Alexander and our LB’ers and the effort they give, but IMO they are not game changers.

I’m not going to get into the restrictions we have with recruiting because of academics, but I have to believe there are game changing players out there that we can get on The Flats. I don’t think we have them now and I don’t know what the answer is.

Lastly, and I am on the fence I regards to Paul Johnson, but I do feel strongly that you don’t make the comment he made today in regards to trying to run down the clock at the end of the half. In my opinion, that is bush league and you can bet your arse he wouldn’t want it said about his offense.

Good measured post. I'd agree with you on Johnson's comment, but I give him a pass because he's competitive and he's frustrated. It's probably the 5th or 6th time it's happened this year. I'm not sure you can attribute that many before-the-half failures to talent.

This post is why I think TR will survive this. Those that played with him are very loyal to him. Moreso than they are loyal to CPJ. I am afraid that if TR goes so goes his son and both Swillings and maybe a few more of the nore highly rated recruits. The cupboard would be even more bare than it is now.

Take it with a grain of salt, but KQ tweeted that the Swillings are really unhappy with CTR.

Please see my thread about Duke vs. UGA. Almost identical defensive failures against players that have wildly different recruiting profiles. You can't cry "talent" every time we lose to a name-brand team when we're losing the same way to teams with worse recruiting than us.

I'm undecided about the comment at halftime.

I don't care who his friends are, it doesn't matter if he is a Tech man, his defenses have been and will continue to be bad.

Zulu, I can agree to a pass once in a while, but like you said it’s happened a lot this year. And there have been Many before the half failures on the part of our defense. Talent may or may not make a difference, who knows, but it is damn sure frustrating.

I don’t know if Ted survives or not. I do think Paul would be smart to keep him on staff in some capacity. Not because of his son and other players, but because I think Ted brings some good things to the table. I don’t even know if he would be willing to stay if he is not in the same capacity.

I think one thing we should all remember is that CPJ does not welcome nor care if the former players that are not his are a part of the program. I don’t think he embraces what the former players mean to the GT fan base and how they might be able to help.

If Coach Johnson does decide to make a change, I am 100% for trying to keep him on as a position coach. How about offer him Special Teams Coordinator & LB coach.

Good post, Ted Roof and ur bro were two of my favorite players as a kid! I actually have Ted Roof's autograph, met him at the Ramblin Wreck parade one year.

I did read your post and it has merit. I don’t come on here and cry about lack of talent when we lose to a name brand team. The point I am trying to make is we don’t have the quality talent that the top teams have. Go back and look at the Duke recruits over the past ten years, I haven’t, but I would bet they are in a similar situation as we are with the number of high level recruits. I could be very wrong.

I agree.....I would hope he would agree to stay on.
