Most of us don't quit our jobs until an age well past what athletes do. Most of us aren't athletes, so the comparison isn't really meaningful.

Even if he had never played football, he comes from a pretty affluent family and was co-valedictorian of his graduating class.

This guy is not some prima donna. Well liked by teammates and around the NFL. He gets it. There's more to life than money and the NFL.... and he's lucky enough to have some good options for achieving happiness after football.

He’s a millennial quarterback who quit on his team and fans a week before the season started because it got too tough for him. No doubt he’s made a lot of money and he could have quit mid season if he wanted. But he doesn’t really deserve respect for his decision and he doesn’t have a legacy. Colts fans were right to boo him off the field.

His coach and teammates don't seem to see it that way. You and the Colt fans you reference seem to be giving a knee jerk reaction to the announcement without looking deeper before reacting. Luck wanted to make a more measured announcement in the right setting but lost that opportunity when his intentions were leaked to the media by someone with selfish interests.

Nope. Guy's body is done. Look at his injuries that last few seasons, not too mention playing with a lacerated kidney for a while. Just like Calvin's body had had enough, Luck is smart enough to get out and enjoy the rest of his life. He did the right thing if his heart is no longer in it.

Of course, Luck should do what he thinks is best. It is his life, but....

1) I didn't like that he focused on mental health. I think it was more the physical injuries so not sure why he didn't focus on that but getting your mind right is part of being a franchise QB.

2) I fully understand why the fans are upset. A franchise QB has a lot more expectations and responsibility than any other player in the organization. If he could physically be a backup QB this year, then he should have stuck it out and/or allowed the team to make the decision for him to retire or not. Now maybe he couldn't; maybe his body is in such bad shape that he can't even be expected to play 20 snaps a game but then the question is why didn't anyone in the organization figure this out earlier? The situation doesn't make sense.
