Annual ACC Coaches Talk Smack Thread

"They’re taking on transfers, but that makes more sense for them because of their lack of depth on the line. The issue for them is that they’re not making that big dent in recruiting we thought they would. Maybe it’s coming, but it hasn’t happened yet. They’re taking a lot of the best-of-the-rest guys that programs in our league or the SEC have passed on for one reason or another."

Who did we pass in the recruiting rankings? Because that's who said this.

Offer lists for our commits suggest we are doing much better than "best-of-the-rest guys." The idea that we're getting 4-star and high 3-star players simply because good programs are passing on them is pretty rich.
We’re getting 4* and high 3*’s because we don’t want the 5* kids. So in that way, Alabama is picking up our leftovers.

I mean really, who wants guys like Gibbs?

Georgia Tech
"Probably another long year for them, but you can see the progress." -Dabo

"The big question is if the school is still committed to the vision Geoff [Collins] is selling, because this is the point where it gets harder to get people excited, especially if they have another losing year." -Dabo

"The freshman running back [Jahmyr Gibbs] is a really good player. The quarterback [Jeff Sims] played better than most people thought he would. They’re definitely gonna ride those two on offense. You would assume they’ll turn it over less than they did last year because they’re more experienced, but that really hurt them." -Dabo

"The good news is the offensive line will get better because it can’t get much worse. There’s progress, but it’s the one position group that takes the longest to change from the triple." -Dabo

"Defensively they were sort of a train wreck, honestly. You saw glimpses of good stuff, then they’d fall apart. The line was a mess, and they really fell apart late in the year." -Dabo

"This is an important year for them to show proof of concept.” -Dabo

“I want to go play in the SEC because if we are still in the ACC next year, Geoff is going to kick our asses for running up the score last year. -Dabo

It smacks of Mack Brown and misinformed UNC arrogance.

Our recruiting isn't up to where it will be when we start winning. We are not in the top tier of the ACC recruiting so far, we are in the top of the second tier; which should start paying dividends soon. If the OL gels this year it will make a huge difference and we are getting much needed help on DL. Improve the line of scrimmage and suddenly we'll be a bowl team. The question is whether the pieces are there to take that next step and I am optimistic that they are; but the comment about our recruiting isn't that far off.

Someone should start a "since UNC won the ACC" Twitter account.
I despise UNC, almost as much as uga. They got caught cheating in the most egregious way (fake classes with automatic A's) and nothing happened to them. When the NCAA investigated us for a player getting some nice shirts in 2009, their investigator was a former UNC football player. We're in the same damn division as them, to a normal person that might be considered a conflict of interest.

This quote smells like it was farted out by someone who is scared of GT's recruiting successes lately and is desperately clinging to the negative recruiting tactics he's been able to use in the past.

Doesn't seem like the kind of place where disingenuous comments would be made. It’s anonymous comments, a chance to speak your mind. Hence it makes sense to me to be Brown, who is so far recruiting better than us. Maybe Diaz, but we’ve been pulling in some Miami talent so doesn’t feel as good of a fit as Brown.

The coach knew it would be made public. He's trying to influence perception. The hype surrounding the program recently is important, since recruiting success tends to build on itself. He's trying to dampen that.

These are never head coaches and often statements from SIDs. Its cute dumb and dumb. But entertaining to read and frankly the comments about tech are not far off

Does the SEC do this? I’d like to hear other coaches ripping on the dwags for being low class, losers with bad haircuts.
