Another reason why we lost (no one talks about)

We lost because the game was on the "ROAD" against a BCS conference team (Kansas) - that simply isn't a bad team.

If we scheduled games like most all the big boys we should NEVER play any road games against anyone except the ACC and every other year vs. Georgia.

Look at Ohio State - they play all 4 non Big 10 games at home 3 of them against horrible teams. Look at Alabama - they are "venturing" onto the road next week to play at DUKE!!!

The situation is so ultra-pathetically stupid beyond all comprehension. How can even the wildest most remote analysis of what team is better than another (even within the same conference!!!) be made when the disparity between schedule strength is so "flamingly" out of control. It renders College Football as a pathetic joke.

Many or most of you will say - "this is the way it is" / "this is what you need to do to win a Nat. Championship" - and that is true. So, the situation is hopeless. And, by the way a "play-off system" would not change any of this! Teams would continue to play pathetic schedules.

Bottom Line: If we played as bad as we did yesterday - but WON because the game was at home everyone here would be saying - while we aren't playing good - we are figuring out ways to win, etc...

Horrible theory.

Kansas is the Duke of the Big 12. They were at the bottom of the north division last year. We lost to a B rate team - and it shouldn't have been as close as it was. They lost 8 straight games.

We aren't Bama or Ohio State - the only way we make a MNC and NOT look like Boise State is if we play decent OOC games. Simple as that.

Andrew - nothing is more pathetically stupid than the New York Mets - except for their fans (like you!) who actually admit it.

CASE CLOSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You guys should see Auburn's home/away schedule. It's truly a joke.

Home games:
Arkansas State
Clemson
South Carolina
ULM
Arkansas
LSU
Chattanooga
Georgia

Away games:
Mississippi State
Kentucky
Mississippi
Alabama

So basically all their tough opponents are home games until the last game of the season at Alabama.

Uh, Mississippi State, Kentucky, and Mississippi are all better than Kansas.

None of this will matter if Kansas makes a run for the Big XII North

No they are not. Kansas imploded last year after winning their first 5 games. They are a team with good players who was just at the Orange Bowl two years ago. This will bear out as the season goes on and this loss will look less and less bad.

this.

We have to play some schools, both home and away, to get them on our schedule. GT doesn't have enough fans who buy season tickets annually to buy out the return trip of a home and away series.

The team scored 3 points last weekend to a D1AA school. They put down four touchdowns against us. They are not a good team, and we played like absolute utter ****. We didn't lose because we were on the road. We lost because our receivers are pathetic, our defense thinks that light slaps on the ass count as tackling and because our execution was non-existent.

****!

allen,

i agree with your last three suppositions. but kansas is going to win a bunch of games this year, especially if they come close to replicating that kind of effort week in and week out. they picked a bad time to pee down their leg, which is what we did Saturday afternoon. We literally handed them two TDs — the short punt and the roughing the passer, followed by the worst exhibit of tackling since ... since ... well, last year.
Remember, we struggled mightily two years ago with Gardner freaking Webb and was lucky to win that one. JMU beat Va Thug, in Blacksburg, yesterday. And Va Thug shoulda beaten Boise (nice call for a fade pattern on third down when the other team has no timeouts, Beamer, and you have a QB they can't tackle).
And losing to JMU doesn't mean that Va Thug will be a pushover.
This is still a potentially very good Jackets team. We have serious questions to address quickly. Gotta learn to get off blocks and make tackles. Gotta get better blocking on the edge on offense. Gotta catch passes.

Kansas went 11-1 or something like that a few years ago, and were decent every year until last year.

They are much worse than us on paper, but they were at the top of their game and we played...like they played against NDST.

Yeah, but two years in college football when everybody only gets 5 to play 4 means in almost all cases a team 2 years later has replaced way more than half its starters. They aren't the same team. The team that ran up the 8 game losing streak has a LOT more in common with their current team.

In 2007 Kansas went 11-1. That was the only time since 2001 that they went above .500 in conference play. During that timeframe, they only managed to go .500 one other time...every other season they were below .500. Kansas has always sucked and got very lucky to play a schedule with a single ranked team in 2007.

They started losing games like crazy after Mangino lost them. Mangino probably didn't get a lot of five stars, but most of his players I'm sure are BCS players with other BCS offers.

They thought they could waltz into the stadium and beat ND State and we thought we could beat Kansas by waltzing into the stadium. We can talk about dropped passes all day, but the fact is if our defense had their **** mind rite we would have beat them soundly, if not blowing them out. I don't care if the KU offense scored zero point against a school for blind middle school girls, you still have to make the tackles.

Sorry, but being a member of the ACC precludes us from the type schedules some others have. We need to build a tougher team. We need to attract more fans not by advertising but by winning bigger games on the field.

It is not done playing FCS and ACC teams.
