Any idea who we will replace Auburn with in \'04?

We have openings on the schedule for '04 and '06. I know this won't get much support, but I would love it if we played a home-and-away with Tulane. We used to play them annually. The one year we might play them in Nawlins just think of a long weekend in NOLA as well as casinos nearby. Yes, there are plenty of others I'd rather see like Tenn (won't happen because their schedule is already booked for '04) or Va Tech (ditto) or Miami (ditto) or you name it. I think Da Braine is going to have a tough time maneuvering a quality game for '04. The even-year home schedule isn't nearly as strong as the odd years so it is very important we add a strong team. A season ticket schedule including UConn, Duke, and Wake in '04 already is bad enough. Throw in a no-name school and I think the average fan on the streets of Atlanta who we will potentially need to attract to fill a 55K seat stadium will NOT bee overly interested in a season ticket package that includes basically UVa, FSU, and then 4 patsies. At best we will only get 3 strong teams. That is, assuming Braine can pull off getting one for '04. And whether it is 3 or even 2 strong teams, we dang well better leave those games on Saturdays. It would absolutely stink to have UVa + FSU + 1 other non-ACC quality home game and have 1 of those moved to that Thursday crap.

tulane's good. Or maybe some other Conference USA team like Louisville or Southern Miss (well, it's CLOSE to Nawlins). How about Ga Southern. What would be really great is a Big Ten team. Get one of them to drop Miami of Ohio and H&H with us.

That's too bad Auburn won't visit us in '04. AU should reconsider especially after we let them beat us nine years in a row. I don't see how AU playing GT in the dome is much different than playing us at Grant Field, for them, that is. I was hoping they would bee back on the schedule permanently. Is South Carolina or West Virginia booked up for '04?

Belly got it. Time to schedule Ga Southern. That will fill up BDS I assure you and will be a quality opponent. Call Da Braine and get it done someone.

Auburn and Ga. Southern are about equal....yeah, maybe in gnats and kudzu....that's about it though.

Hate to lose Auburn...dang..Tulane is not a bad thought..they used to be on our regular schedule because they were also originally in the SEC.. I'd a lot rather schedule ND or something than pick up a division 2 crip. Lets get a great matchup rather than a easy W.

T. Bowden at Tulane is another example of how much difference a coach makes.
Didn't they leave the SEC the same year we did?

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">gnats, GSU is a 4 time Div 1-AA champion who would leave their gonads on Grant Field to beat us. It would not be easy...

Re: Any idea who we will replace Auburn with in \'04?

I attended Georgia Southern a couple of years and they won their 4th 1-AA title in 1990, when I was there. They have won one or two more since then...IIRC. I agree they are at the upper tier of 1AA every year and will not be a patsy.

Re: Any idea who we will replace Auburn with in \'04?

They've won 6 since '85. Their record for the 5 seasons of '96-'00 was 54-15. The 15 losses included several 1-A opps.

ramblinwise is exactly right, they'd leave their gonads and everything else on the field to beat us.

Schools I would love to see us schedule, in no particular order:

Michigan, Michigan St, Ohio St, Penn St, TCU (just to see their mascot in person), Oregon, Stanford, UCLA, USC, Washington, and pretty much anyone from the Big 12.

I don't know how realistic the cross-country trips would be on a year to year basis for us, but I would love to see some of those matchups in the regular season. If anything else, it gets ol' GTU some exposure.

Re: Any idea who we will replace Auburn with in \'04?

Well, if we had to go the 1-AA route, GA Southern is the team I would want to play, but I would rather we didn't. It doesn't matter how good of a 1-AA team they are, they aren't going to help us out in any way, shape, or form. It would only be a burden on our SOS. Truth be told, NO 1-AA team can really compete with even the worst 1-A teams. Duke would beat GA Southern more than 50% of the time.

I agree with CowGill. I would like a big name school from either the Pac 10, Big 11, or Big 12. We never really get to play any of those teams, and I would love the chance to spank one of those perpetually overrated teams like Michigan or Ohio State. Hopefully we can get something like that worked out.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">Belly, I think they left the same year or thereabouts. Their reasons for leaving were probably different, as they had not been competitive in forever.

I think that we should schedule a national opponent, like from the Big 12 or Big 11 or PAC 10. If we can't get Auburn, let's get a big-name school from somewhere else. I think we owe Arizona 2 butt whuppins. How about one of the Texas schools? Maybe we can get a game with Notre Dame? Just my thoughts.

If none of that works, then GSU would be a great choice. UGA has played them twice and it's been great for the state.
