Are The Good Times Really Over For Good?

I respect every member of this board, and I know there are generational differences between me and most of you. However, there are two things that I'll never understand.

First, how can anybody read the stuff that I've written and have any doubt about how hard I cheer for or care about Tech?

Second, what happened to cause people to think that it's worthy of Georgia Tech for us to make fun of each other or use vulgar language, especially on a public forum on which our comments can be taken to be even unofficially representative of Tech fans?

You know, the thing that endeared Coach Dodd to Tech people and the thing that he did that brought so much respect to Tech was not his winning percentage. Besides the first part of the 1950's, his typical record was around 7-3. The reason he was so loved by Tech fans and so admired by others was because he had so much integrity and class. And he was loyal to Tech. Texas and its alums offered him a big raise and two or three oil wells to become its Head Coach, but he turned them down. He was the ultimate Tech man.

When I read a book about Coach Dodd or watch videos of him on the internet, I feel so proud of Tech. I think Coach Johnson is an excellent Coach, but reading about or seeing videos about Coach Dodd really makes me miss those days. When he walked onto Grant Field in that hat, the sunglasses, the white shirt, the gold tie, the blue blazer, the grey pants, the white socks, and the football shoes, it seemed like he was floating above the ground. In my opinion, absolutely no school has a better athletic heritage than Georgia Tech. Not one.

Not trying to be a jerk but you are talking about and longing for shit that happened over 50 years ago. Dodd has been dead for almost 30 years. Move on.

I pray that I don't become a sad old man 30 years from now posting on some message board about how I yearn for the days of Coach Johnson. That is rough. But I hold the OP to the same standards as I hold everyone else. We don't need the negative energy especially not two weeks before kickoff. If you got nothing good to say, and you bring up zombies from the past to make comparisons to a time that is vastly different, or if you're one of those morons who think Chan Gailey ever did better than what we experienced in 2014, then you are my enemy. People who always live in the glory days of the past and who are never happy with what's in front of them because it's never as good as it used to be, weigh the rest of us down. And if you ask me whether you should be happy with playing Mercer rather than Alabama, well, that is your problem. I want to win a national title again and I believe, maybe foolishly, that it will happen. And you don't do that these days by playing the toughest teams in the league right off the bat. Clemson, Virginia Tech, Miami, North Carolina and Georgia are all formidable tough opponents and honestly, if we're good enough to beat those guys, we'll end up playing Alabama at the end of the year anyway.

Back in Dodd's days Tech didn't fly to Ireland to play a conference game with an opponent either.

And if you ever start feeling old you should look at other people your age and what they're doing with their lives. Did you know Saban is 64?

Two things I do understand about this board.

1. You shouldn't talk to anomynous people on this board like you're face to face at a tailgate.

2. You shouldn't expect anonymous people on this board to talk to you like you're face to face at a tailgate.

If the Internet was around in the 50's and 60's you would have just as much vulgarness, except probably with more closet commies.

I'm still trying to figure out which days those were when people left big programs to come to Tech.
Pepper left UCLA, Roy Williams was leaving Kansas to come to GT if Cremins had not done a turnaround.

@Akinji07 are you sleep posting again?

No. I went out drinking. Went to the braves game for couple hours then Rocky Mountain. Absolutely smashed. Came home and passed the öööö out at like 10. Woke up at 5. It took me a while to go back to sleep.
