Re: While I appreciate your opinion...
As others have touched on, I too have never been a big fan of CG. I was disappointed when the hire was initially announced and, with little exception, my overall opinion has not changed. That being said, he is the HC at GT (and will be for a few more years at least), so I do support him.
The 2005 season was similar in some ways to previous seasons under CG; moments of elation being met with moments of disgust. Miami was tremendous. It was great to defeat Auburn for two-in-a-row. Beating Clemson in a defensive struggle was satisfying. A defensive struggle and game of field position with UGA was exciting.
But, not showing up at Va. Tech was embarrassing. Giving up big plays and ultimately throwing away an opportunity to save yourself against an inferior NC State team was just plain sickening. Falling behind early against UVA and letting the game get away after catching up was deflating. And, ultimately, the loss to UGA left me bitter.
RB has improved some elements of his game, but IMO GT will never reach that next level with him at QB. The defense was just tremendous, with the secondary showing much improvement. The lack of improvement in special teams play though inhibits me from calling this season one of distinct improvement.
A victory in the Emerald Bowl against an average Mtn. West team will provide for an improvement as far as wins and losses are concerned. But I witnessed to many repetitive mistakes to call this a season of improvement, though the two victories over top 10 teams makes me think I should view it as such.
