Athletic CRAZINESS

Not to derail the thread too much, throwing around that money is just asinine. From my limited following of the Premier League, I assume that Man U is the "Yankees" of the league, no?

Man Utd WERE the Yankees of the sport.

Then this Russian billionaire bought Chelsea and spent over $100million on new contracts in the first two years (he was smart, while he 'washed' his money through player salaries and buying the club his pals were getting tossed in jail and having their assets taken away)

Now the royal family of the UAE has bought Manchester City, and started throwing money around. they bought a guy for about $30 million before the season, and now throwing this crazy money around. The rest of the English league is yelling "DONT overinflate the tranfer market". can you imagine the Lions paying $156million to the Patriots for Tom Brady? i dont think so

A convo by plebes that have no idea wot they're talking about. I lived in jolly ole England for 3 and a half years. No American sports at all. AT ALL. Serious footy (soccer). It took some getting used to but it's a fun game and league.

You people are idiots. Engineers debating soccer. :laugher:

first off, i am not an engineer
second, i lived in soccer-enamored countries for longer than 3 and a half years
third, i think you are the idiot

In response to ncjacket's question...THIS is why. Granted, this was provoked by someone coming in and simply bashing the sport. However, I have plenty of experience with soccer fans who don't like American football trash the sport in a similar manner. I've heard all the same tired taunts "soccer is a beautiful sport", "You just don't understand it", "Maybe if you actually watched it, you would like it". Maybe if you try it, you'll like it", etc.

Bottom line is, I have played soccer for about three years, while taking a break from baseball. I hated it. I though it would grow on me, but it didn't. I watched a good bit of a Man U/Chelsea game last year (when they were in the finals or something like that), and bits and pieces here and there, and I'm not longing to watch more. I don't understand the appeal of it, but, then again, I don't have to. I leave people to their own affairs. If you ask me, I'll tell you I hate the sport. American football is for me, just like tens of thousands enjoy the thrill, excitement, accidental tramplings, and burning of random **** (in victory) that comes with soccer/west virginia football.

I don't get it. How is this a response to my question? I asked why people who don't like the sport feel the need to tell people. You posted about why you don't like it. Fine. It doesn't bother me one bit that you don't. But I still don't know why you feel like you need to join in just to tell me. It's really fascinating. Do you feel threatened by the sport? BTW, I DIDN'T ASK YOU.

Man Utd WERE the Yankees of the sport.

I agree that all the foreign billionaires getting involved will put pressure on Man U, but let's not forget that Man U belongs to an AMERICAN billionaire.

Just an aside, but as of last year, Man U was the most valuable sports franchise in the world, ahead of the Yankees and everyone else.

3 pages and nobody else is immature enough to mention that the bigtime soccer stud's name sounds like a synonym for "doodoo"?

I'll step into the breach.

The accent is on the second syllable, so it's kahKAH, not kah kah.

I'm saving this post and my original so I can verify I know nothing about soccer. It'll help when I have to renew my mancard.
