I think we will be put into most top-25s. I say 21 as my guess.

I agree. CFN has us ranked 22, but Rivals doesn't rank us. However, Rivals poll came out in January

Not that preseason rankings mean anything. In fact, they may be the primary cause of the BCS rankings not working at the end of the year...

But, I still can't help but look at them :D

I just don't know if we'll be ranked by Athlon at all. I doubt national sports writers will take the time to do research on all the things that have changed internally since last season, such as Bond coming in for Nix or how much better Taylor will be than Ball.

Not that it really matters all that much, though. I personally think there should be no polls until halfway through the season, when the BCS rankings are usually ready. Pollsters would be forced to evaluate a team's performance this season instead of coasting by keeping the same teams if they don't lose.

I agree. Athlon is not likely to put us in the top 25, in last year's preview they had us in the 30s so don't get excited. But I really don't give two rat sh!ts what they think we are ranked. They can take their magazine and shove it up their own asses!

:wow: WOW…What animosity!!! Did they write something about your girlfriend or what? ;)

Even though I could care less what they or anybody else thinks of the Jackets, a bad preseason ranking can put a fork in us before we even start cooking. Especially, if teams like USC blow out their weak ass conference.

If USC's preseason ranking starts to matter, a la Auburn 2004, then GT would be competing for the MNC and I'll be quite happy with the Jackets position regardless.

Hypothetically, GT would have very well entered the top 10 last year if we beat Clemson. GT just needs to win and the ranking will take care of itself.

I am talking about USC (West). They will most likely be the number one ranked team going into the 2007 season. They could pull wins out their ass against teams like Idaho, Stanford and Washington, but never come close to dropping from the number one spot. Now if a good team goes undefeated, even through the SEC schedule, then they deserve to be in the MNC, IMO.

I say 18 or higher since we did win our side of the acc last year and since we have alot returning. I say they may even have us predicted to win the acc this year!

Athlon sucks the big one. They totally threw us in the sh!tter last year as far as their analysis goes. said we wouldn't beat a lot of teams that we ended up beating.

They are pompous assholistic bastards!

Who cares where we are ranked pre-season. We never manage to be ranked at the end of the season. Even with an all world Wide Receiver. Gailey needs to start finishing in the top 25.

Why do you really care where they rank us? Who is Athlon? Their ranking means absolutely NOTHING to me. The only ones that do are AP and Coaches.

Mark it this season. Unless we digress offensively from last year :laugher: , then I see a very strong team. the only thing that worries me, and others who attended spring camp, is our CB's/secondary.

Actually the Harris Poll and the Coaches poll are the two that influence the BCS poll - which makes them the two most important polls.

To ME the most important are AP and Coaches.

These magazines mirror the rest of the mainstream media in America. They are shallow, superficial and lazy. They basically go with the same teams they always pick and do very little investigation and in depth analysis.

They only know that Calvin has left and therefore we will not be as good as last year. That is their mindset and the extent of their analysis.

What does matter about preseason rankings is a teams ability to climb the polls as the season progresses. If you are not ranked you automatically have a higher mountain to climb and carry the stigma of an overachieving team that should not being doing as well as you are. If you remember 1990 there were many who did not want to see Georgia Tech crowned national champion because we were from the weak ACC and were not a member of the club (as a like to refer to the Notre Dame, USC, Nebraska and Texas types of the world).

So while I put very little stock in these preseason publications, unfortunately they do carry weight and can hold a negative consequence for teams like Georgia Tech by putting us in a place where the odds to be a National Champion are more difficult than they should be and they are difficult enough already.

Go Jackets!

Point taken. Truthfully, I'm more interested in the AP, but the AP no longer influences the BCS standings - which haven't really come into play for us in a long time anyway.

Your right. But I go back to the days when the National Championship could actually be split in half. (Although give us 5 downs we might have beaten UNC) I've always just followed those two polls. ;)
