Athlon Sports Rankings

Well, what a surprise. Truthfully, when I didn't see Tech by #20, I didn't think that I would see us at all.
 
#14? I'd say that's a little high given our recent history. I believe we can be a top 15 team this year, but I'm surprised anyone outside of Tech projects us that high.

EDIT: They placed us two spots above UGA.
 
with Miami not living up to expectations, I think the "experts" are looking for another bandwagon to jump on. As we are all very aware of , when we have gotten a bunch of people on our bandwagon in the past going into a season, we end up with 4 flat tires.

I think we are in a position to break that ugly trend with this team. Yes we are suspect at CB it appears, but CJT will produce a top defense like he always does in the end. Plus, the QBs in this conference aren't that great honestly.

If we can come out and punch ND in the mouth like we should, on paper atleast, then we'll grab alot of national attention.
 
My preference is to be unranked and hungry going into the season and being number one after going 14-0.
 
That is indeed suprising! I know in the back of my mind that this in no way guarantees a successful season; however it is encouraging to see us getting respect. I still hate Athlon though!
 
It definitely helps the team. The players read a lot into these things, it'll generate swagger in the locker room and pour onto the field.
 
Wow, I thought my koolaid was pretty thick. I certainly they're right about that ranking, unless we end up even higher. We're certainly capable of it if the CBs don't give up too many big plays, like I'm fearing will happen.

As for the team, they should just be pissed Athlon didn't rank them #1.
 
Now I'd really like to see where the AP and Coaches' Poll will have us in their preseason rankings. It will certainly be easier to climb the ladder from 14 than from 30.
 
Yes, I would think it makes a lot bigger impact on future potential players than it does current players.
