Back from Starksville...some thoughts

Hey - were you in a jersey with a sign? If so, we got a picture of you in that sea of maroon - Way to represent!

The Cowbells were annoying as anything. My head was ringing all night. I just can't imagine living there, I felt like they were 20 years behind us.

They generally treated people with no respect, and when I tried to talk to them about some of their actions, they pushed me off of the bleacher. They made me truly embarassed to represent GT, especially since MSU fans were so great.

Overall, it was an awesome experience, but improvements still need to be made among GT fans in the area of sportsmanship.

Yeah, we have some no-class people in our fanbase, but hopefully a much lower percentage than others.

With that said, I was sitting beside a couple of people who were GT fans that went to 1) Arkansas, and 2) Mississippi State!. They live in Atlanta and were disgusted with Georgia fans, so became GT fans.
They cheered for every play on both sides and high-fived me when GT scored. :laugher:

I guess the benefit of sitting in crappy seats in section W is that I was surrounded by the good guys and not cowbells.

You're wrong about the 20 years thing, with the exception of the monster big screen, we were way ahead of them 20 years ago.
 
I was standing in that section you were talking about and I didn't see or hear half the stuff you were talking about. Yes, we started taunting the MSU fans to ring their cowbells (they were right in front of us, IN OUR SECTION!, they should have known better!). They started issuing death threats to a large group of us, even though we were saying nothing truly offensive or doing nothing that would be considered harmful. I didn't see any fights or pushing. If one or two guys started getting too rowdy, the rest of us would usually try to keep them under control. The ones you tried to talk to were probably hammered beyond belief; I can't speak for those guys. We tailgated with MSU fans all day and had wonderful experiences. Don't take what happens at the game and believe that's how it was outside the game. I don't believe the group was anymore obnoxious than any opposing team I have seen. It was all in good fun. Calm down.

assumption. pretty sure ppl can purchase any ticket they please. you sure it wasn't a collective "y'all's" section?

personally, i will have fun at the games @ an opponents expense but a "good game" after a win is much more rewarding then an "in your face!"
 
Well done post. Fans were extremely hospitable and I was surprised how nice the campus was. Also:

Crappy view of field > Good view amongst cow bells.
 
I saw a Miss State shirt that said this on the back:

Starkville Mississippi: We may not win very many games, but you can't tell from the tailgate.

I thought that was awesome.

The defense looked extremely poor last night. Mullen did a good job mixing the run in with the pass. I was surprised at how bad we were at stopping the spread despite the fact that we practice against such a similar system every day.

A win is a win, though. We came up with the plays we needed to win the ballgame in hostile territory. The people at MSU were nice to us, and I can't wait to drive down and see us destroy the Criminoles!

A win is a win--period. I think a lot of us, myself included, lose sight of just how incredibly difficult it is to to win just one single, solitary game. Not to mention trying to win a big game against excellent, motivated, well prepared competition--on road. And try it a dozen times in the span of 13 weeks. Throw in school, girl friends, money worries, video games, etc.
It is tough way to make a living. Ask Stoops, or Richt, Kiffin, or Jimbo, Butch or Rich Rod this morning.
