Bama or VPI?

I hope Va Tech looks like crap and plays like crap and Tyrod looks and plays like crap but that Va Tech wins the game 7-6 or something.

What I think will happen is something like Bama 34, VPI 13.

Hopefully it's an ugly VPI win. I'm not to worried about the pub they'll get. If we start off the year with wins against Clemson, Miami, and UNC, we'll get our fair share. The ACC would have 2 Top 10 teams at that point and it would get pub. We just need to take care of business week in and week out.

VPI, not doubt. We want them to look good doing so as well. We want them ranked as high as possible for when we play them. If we beat them, makes us look better. If we don't, loss won't sting as much. ACC HAS to win some of these big games in order to get respect.

Hopefully VPI looks fantastic in beating Alabama. We want them to have as much good press as possible, because we get to play them.

VT because they are ACC. We need as much positive press towards the ACC as possible.

VPI for sure. I am tired of the ACC "second-rate conference" comments on Sportscenter (edit: I also mean the general public).

If VPI beats Alabama and we lose to VPI, then we didn't deserve to go anywhere this year anyway. I hope VPI kills Bama and we turn around and kill VPI.

Anybody cheering against VPI is cheering against us imo. If VPI loses (especially if they get blown out), what does it mean if we beat them? Nothing.

Edit: For the people thinking my post was just aimed at ESPN, it is not. Also, yes the media is important in how we are ranked. So quit being retarded.

It's more than just ESPN people, general populous thinks the same that SEC is the conference... therefore ACC must beat the SEC every time.

I hate to say this, but I don't really hear too much irrational criticism from the media of the ACC. Of course there is some from fans, who tend to exagerate the disparity between the ACC and other confs. But, the ACC hasn't had any team come even CLOSE to winning a National Championship since 2000. Since 1990, only FSU has been close. All the other major conferences have won a NC since the ACC's last and they have all had more than just one team in the hunt late in the year since 1990. (And yes, I refuse to give the ACC credit for what Miami and VT did as Big East teams.) The ACC generally doesn't do all that well in big bowl games as of late. ACC needs to be in the NC picture to get respect, and if they are not, we don't deserve it. I don't buy the argument that media bias somehow keeps us out of the NC picture either. Losing games does.

==============

Since 1990, the only ACC team to win a NC has been FSU.

The Pac-10 is similar to the ACC in this regard. We won in 90 and Washington won in 91. Since then, the Pac-10 and ACC have only been about USC and FSU and not much more. The key difference here is that USC has gotten a hell of a lot better in recent years and FSU has gotten worse.

Since 1990, the Big 10 has seen Michigan and Ohio St win NCs (and a 12-0 Penn St team that got shafted)

Big 12 has had Oklahoma and Texas and Nebraska win NCs.

SEC has had a bunch. (Bama, Tennessee, Florida x3, LSU x2, not to mention Auburn's two undefeated teams, one of which got shafted by the system.)

I concede that the Big 10 and Pac-10 are not head-and-shoulders above the ACC. I also believe that we are better than the Big East (which we usually get credit for anyway) but this does not mean that the criticisms of the ACC are not valid.

OK...I understand the "pull for the ACC" logic. But...wouldn't it benefit us (GT...not the conference) for VPI to get their a$$ whipped. I mean look at last year. Same deal with Clemson. Pre-season top 10 team. Got their butt kicked by Bama and basically imploded after that. Fired the coach, qb controversy, etc. So...would it not be to our benefit for Bama to take the wind out of VT's sail. I'm just saying. If Clemson would have won that game last year...they might have had a very different season. And...obviously VT is our biggest speed bump on the road to the ACC championship.

But Bowden was already on the hot seat. I don't think a collapse happens to teams like VT because their coaches won't let it happen.

I don't think the a$$ whipping caused the implosion, I think Clemson was overhyped and should have been a$$ whipped. VPI on the other hand is supposed to be good, (still overhyped, but people are realizing it slowly), and for them to win against Bama and us to beat them is WAY better for our image/team morale/rankings than for VPI to get demoralized and we beat a team that stinks.
