BC #2, OSU back to #1

I liked GO'L --basically because he came in after the train wreck that BL left the program in and GT was able to stabilize itself and have some very good seasons a few years after he took over. And you are correct --one big reason (no pun intended) --but one BIG reason was Fridge --no doubt.

That being said --it wasn't lost on me that GO'L was a DC prior to his HC gig at Tech --and defense was the obvious week spot on most of his teams. I never could understand that or figure out why the D was so wretched during those very productive offensive years under GO'L.

I will say it again GOL told me the program (athletes) was not the problem when he took over. It was the discipline of the team. He admitted to me he had some great athletes and it wouldn't take him long to straighten out the team.

The reason the D was so bad in that 2 to 3 year span is he wouldn't keep his ego away from the Def. Coord. so they could do their job. Kind of like Chan now. But back then people didn't seem to mind GOL doing it.

with regard to O'l it just amazes me how some people love the guy when without Fridge he is not as good of a coach as Chan.

And, just like O'Leary, Chan would not look so good without Tenuta. Part of being a successful HC is hiring and retaining a good coaching staff. Both Chan and O'Leary deserve credit for Tenuta and Fridge respectively.

But don't try the argument that O'Leary was good only b/c of Fridge, unless of course you believe Chan is only successful b/c of Tenuta.

Here's to 9-3.
