Since we have these two team first, what are your feelings on their additions to the conference?
In my opinion, I am more of a traditionalist and liked it better without them, but with their addition as well as Miami is gives the ACC a little more talent and prestige.

Thoughts?

lukewarm on VT (only in for political reasons), BC doesn't bother me.

Expansion was a necessary evil. Brought about the largest television contract for any conference (prior to the massive SEC deal just announced this week.)

I just can't get into Tech vs. Miami, VT, or BC in basketball.

VT is a nice rival for UVA (but unnecessary, since they already had MD and UNC.) I don't get BC, since the heritage of the ACC is the old original Southern Conference. If we were going that far afield, I would have liked at least a play for ND.

This was a fun discussion back when it was happening.

Aww, my big brother's a Stingtalker now.

As far as football goes, I don't mind VT or UM.
They do seem like more of an SEC team with the thugs they recruit.

I don't really care one way or the other about BC.

Well, my son, you were a bit too young to remember the good ole days of the acc, about 8 years ago.

the ACC is a basketball conference who has about 2-3 teams a year who compete in football.

Imagine the ACC without BC, VT, or UM... We get trashed already...
It's actually quite easy. The expansion is half the reason that the current criticism is heaped upon the ACC. The ACC was supposed to be the new football power house, with both Thug U and Free Shoes. VPISU was forced upon the ACC and I don't think too many people wanted them. I don't mind them now, but I wasn't super happy with letting them in then. BC is a little bit better then the other two choices, in my mind anyways. In hindsight, we should have gone after someone like one of the smaller Florida schools. What's done is done though.

I'm still not a huge fan of it. I don't really like the division system for conferences, and liked it when everyone played everyone, but hard to argue with the money there (stupid money). UM works well in the ACC, it just makes sense. Despite thuggy FB they have quality academics. BC I don't like cause they're just too far away, I would have prefered USC was brought back into the fold, but that wasnt in the cards, and BC is a good school so oh well. VT doesnt really fit, and it was all political. I don't mind have them here, but I don't feel like they "belong." I think Syracuse would have been a better fit, and become a natural rival to BC.

I would have been a fan of what was said a few posts ago, maybe one of the small Florida schools (wherever oleary is now), one of the western or eastern carolinas or unc-charlotte, or even georgia southern or georgia st.

I think we do tend to forget that Thug U is actually a very good school, with quality academics. The problem is that, unless you're in the know or you're from Florida, you assume they're all goons.

I liked the idea of Syracuse back then, but the state of that program is abysmal. Jumping over here might have made a huge difference, but I wouldn't take them now.

Small schools?

Central Florida's current enrollment is 49k
USF's current enrollment is 45k

Well, those ARE small schools. When you think of big schools in FL, you think of UM, FSU, or UF.

I really don't think he was talking about enrollment...
