BC and VT in ACC

"prior to the massive SEC deal just announced this week."

there were actually 2 deals, one with CBS and one with ESPN. CBS has the broadcast rights and some wireless rights. ESPN got the cable rights and the syndication rights, IIRC

CBS, $800million for 15 years

ESPN, $2.25BILLION for 15 years

Geez, that's almost $17MM per year, per school.

Yes it is. AND each school has the ability to negotiate their own local contract for game replays. Florida's total package (including local replay) brings in over $25M!

I would have been a fan of what was said a few posts ago, maybe one of the small Florida schools (wherever oleary is now), one of the western or eastern carolinas or unc-charlotte, or even georgia southern or georgia st.
Okay, I can almost see UCF or SFla, except for their academics, but you do realize that ga southern is D-1AA, ECU would never be acceptable from an overall athletics or academic standing, Western Carolina is also D-1AA, and Charlotte and Ga State don't currently play football, right? C'mon people, think.

Umm, next year Ga st. is getting a football team. :p

Small schools?

Central Florida's current enrollment is 49k
USF's current enrollment is 45k
I think UCF may be larger then Miami at this point. I will back that up with absolutely no fact checking. USF is skewed a bit, because they have like 37 different campuses in the Tampa/St. Pete area. It is a massive school though.

is this still the case AFTER the ESPN deal? i was under the impression that they now own this right, and can either pick it up themselves or re-sell it.

not really an important point. the other things the big schools do to raise $$ is camps, coaches shows, etc.. but frequently these now go to help pay the coach's salary and dont go to the Athletic Dept.

Yes, the SEC schools are RICH in sports $$. This drives the facilities expansions. they still can only sign 85 now at least, instead of 100

Good thing you weren't in charge of ACC expansion.
