I'm interested in what the consensus is on the BC defense this year. Obviously, they had a fantastic year last year. I think they only lost three players. They also lost their DC.

To be honest, I have no idea about BC. I didn't keep up with them last year but I know their defense was incredible. Obviously, that's the matchup to watch-- can they contain our offense?

So, for those of you who know, how is their defense expected to perform? Have they reloaded, or should they be just as good?

BC finished 0-8 in ACC. Their defense was very stout, but Michigan took their DC.

I'm with you on not knowing what to expect. This could be a scary team that is our Achilles heel, or a team we peck away at ala UVA 2009. I don't see us necessarily blowing doors early.

First the bad news: we might score 17. Might.

Now the good news: BC might score 13. Might.

They are a very Gailey-ish team. Their D is excellent, but the O plays very conservative in order to help the D.

They only lead the OOC cupcakes at the half. They were tied with Wake at the half in a 3-0 ööööshow loss.

But their D does play. They were in just about every game except Clemson.

The weather forecast for Saturday is 90% chance of rain in Dublin. Last season, we had an unusual number of games with rain or wet fields. Hopefully the forecast will improve in the next few days, because I don't think the rain helped our offense last year. Ball security and injuries become more of a risk.

BC will be physical and experienced on defense. Not sure if their new DC has any experience defending the option. Their offense is going to be very middle of the pack. They had as many injuries as we did last year. They get most guys back from that, but Loeffler will put a ceiling in their production.

Their DC was the asst HC/DC at UVA for 2010 - 2012.

33-21 W H
24-21 L A
56-20 W H

2-1. The 2011 loss we had 272 yards rushing and 24 passing. Tevin did rush for 129 yards, so JT might have a good day. So it looks like our offense underperformed a bit and Grohs D allowed 409 total yards. So other than that game we handled this guys D well.

If they come out playing two deep safeties or some crap like that, we roll to 400+ yards rushing. I expect they have watched a lot of VT defense against us. Expect a long pass on first play or wheel route.

Since our O was the weak point on the team last year, this will be a good early test to get the guys reps against good players and a sound total defensive unit. Especially since we have a lot of young skill players.

The good news is that any mistakes or challenges we face against their D may be forgiven since their offense is sub-par.

Both teams will likely struggle to score. They because they aren't good on Off.We because they are good on DEf. That's the way it looks.Butker may be the difference.

Their defense is a huge concern. Landry is the kind of DE that can penetrate the lane we need to run the option. Milano is that hybrid defender who is allowed to line up as a safety or linebacker and either blitz, cover, or stay home in run coverage. They are really good and could give us trouble. I think we will need to get the inside running game working to have any success.

I think 77 is right on. Marshall/Mills/Thomas/Lynch will cause em some trouble and tend to neutralize Landry. I believe this will come down to special teams play. I also think they may have the best or second best D we will face this year in regular season.

Our offense can usually overcome a talented defense or a well-prepared defense, but not both. Addazio was smart enough not to leave their preparation to their new DC, Jim Reid. I expect them to cause us some problems, but the BC defense does not have recent game experience against a CPJ-style option attack, so I think we'll get a few big plays and be able to grind out some first downs. It might come down to turnovers and special teams, but I think Tech is the better team, and BC is breaking in both coordinators, neither of whom is very good.

BC's head coach loves Johnson's offense so much he used to visit him to learn about it. BC will be ready on defense for this game.

make up our minds folks, are we 15-0 baybee or are we worried about BC?! hype train is a roller coaster at this point.

The derailment is going to be devastating.
