BDS Renovations

Here's the turf you want, right here.

Played on this. it was horrible...an ACL tearing machine.

Now that, sir, is a spot on question!

What if, years ago, we had started using an LSU, mich., USC goldish yellowish color where the hats could easily match the pants or shirts?

Hmmm.

This was pretty close

Glad it is grass.

In the late 70s, it was concrete covered by a rug - not much different than playing on a parking lot. Intramural soccer was played on Grant Field in the winter quarter - SAC wasn't there yet. I tore up my ankle 3 years in a row just playing intramurals. I respected how tough the football players had to be - rug burns and bruises from that every game, not to mention a helmet hitting that "ground".

It also had a crown that was about thigh high in the middle compared to the sidelines. "Running downhill" was literally true to the sides.

The turf was so hot in the early season that even the band didn't stop marching at half time when on the field- if we had played a 3 minute "concert " type piece, our feet would have burned through the soles with the black shoes we were wearing. We would pace around while waiting for the second quarter to end.

Thankfully, we've come a long way in safety for the players.

If we ever go to artificial, I cancel my season tix.

I know, now there is a ground swell on Stingtalk to have us immediately go to artificial turf.

No, you didn't say you'd kill yourself. For that there would. But since you're alive, we'd rather your ass be at the game.

Was it the type of turf or the shoes that caused the problems?

To an extent, both. The turf was hard and unforgiving. Combined with the shoes it was like Velcro.

My freshman year we switched to reebok, but they disintegrated after our first rainy practice and we went back to the old turf Nikes.
