I would argue that we should have let them once they hit the big pass
I don't take it for granted at all that they could've scored a TD once in the redzone... we stopped them before and might've once again. It took a crazy fluke catch for them to get to the red zone.

That said, it's a fair question why we didn't let them score. I thought CPJ letting UGA score in Athens in 2010 was a stroke of brilliance (Richt afterwards said he should've coached the players not to score), and it is interesting to ask why we didn't let that happen here. In fairness, in 2010, we were already losing by one; here we were winning at the time. That's probably the difference in CPJ's mind (and I might agree with him — have to give that some thought).

I considered letting them score at the time. A field goal from the 15 for a college kicker is hardly automatic. The best chance of winning was probably to hold them there and make them kick. I think our chance of scoring a TD in 30 seconds was probably less.

Had they made the catch at say the 5 with 48 seconds left, I think the calculus is different.

Letting them score probably seems less attractive when your offense has been so ineffective all 4th quarter :sqint:

Yeah, it basically breaks down to where do you like your chances:
1. Miami missing a field goal from ~15 yards line on a wet turf.
2. Being able to score a touchdown when receiving the ball with <40 seconds left (with an offense that has done almost nothing).

Once the 4th and 10 was converted, there was no good option.

There was no reason whatsoever to allow them outside. We let them get out of bounds and stop the clock and save timeouts. Pee wee level coaches know to keep play inside when trying to keep the clock moving. So we do the opposite and allow them to move downfield AND save clock and timeouts.
Maybe you should let our coaches know. I bet they would love to hear more of your ideas. With insight like this, they'd probably give you a job

I’d hope they already know this. Didn’t appear so on Saturday though.

So losing Mills cost us this game, imo.

The other loss was on ST's.
Yeah but we could've put Howard in when Quaide was struggling. I think it was a mistake not to.

Going 80+ yds in that little time is strangely familiar -a game vs VT back in'12? when the DEF let them go 85 yds in a minute or so.I think Roof was here then also. hmmm

I believe that would have been Groh. Roof didn't get hired until 2013.
