Best atmosphere you've ever seen at Tech

The Thursday night game against Maryland a few years ago was surprisingly good. I think it was '03 or so. It ended the Fridge's streak against us. Classic Tenuta game, 90% blitzes, QB rattled, crowd constantly yelling.

I'm pretty sure the final was 7-3. That game was loud.

I don't know if away games count, but:

1st Place: 1974 at UGA. As I remember, GT was picked to lose by two touchdowns, and we won (in a cold rain) 34-14. A wonderful day.

2nd Place: Homecoming 1976. For some reason, Notre Dame was scheduled as our Homecoming opponent, and they came to town with murder in their eyes. GT won (I think he score was 24-13). Of course, they paid us back big time in 1977 (69-14).

3rd Place: GT paid ND back for the '77 rout, by knocking them out of first place with a 0-0 tie in 1980 (we lost the rest of our games that year).

1962 Alabama. My mother almost got into a fight with a drunk Bama fan but no one would have noticed with the shower of liquor bottles being thrown at the Bear. 1966 Tennessee. Bobby Dodd classic. Tennessee was ranked 8th in the nation. Jacket defense shut them down.

Ah, the good ole days..:laugher:

It was a loss but exciting and ultimately a heartbreaker -

'71, Thanksgiving night at Grant Field against the once defeated mutts. We were heavy underdogs but fought like hell and almost pulled out the win with the dawgs having to pull a last ditch drive out of their beehinds and just barely avoid the upset. Final score Us 24 - Them 28. Pretty crazy.

Another nod to 'the Fog Bowl.' Night game and the whole campus was pretty festive. Lots of excitement.

Those night games vs. UGAg at BDSHGF are a lot of fun.

Best away game I went to was 1999 FSU. I've never walked back to my car after a loss and heard the opposing team's fans in such shell shock. They won the game and were commiserating about how their season was over.

1998 vs. UGa

From certain victory (17 point lead) to certain defeat (score tied at 48-48 and UGa reaches our five yard line with time to run at least 3 plays) to certain defeat (blocked field goal) to a second chance (Godsey's head's-up recovery of the blocked field goal + O'Leary's/Fridge's brilliant playcalling strategy) to the final spike through Georgia's heart.

I just doesn't get any better for me than that.

You do know that AJ Suggs had Chromes(sp?) disease, right? He couldn't help it that Chan wanted to play him. Anyways who did we have to play over him? Bilbo couldn't even remember the plays.....

Crohn's disease.

So do Theo Fleury and David Garrard.

No excuse for being bad.

The throwback game vs. UVA was a pretty good one in my opinion. Not even close to the '06 Notre Dame game.

Home versus Duke in '94. My first Tech football game ... and people wonder why I have a crappy attitude towards the football program. I was scarred early.

A come-from-behind victory in 06' versus Miami was pretty sweet. Had a great time in the end zone.

I like the references to '06 Notre Dame and '03 Auburn. Extremely different situations though.

In '06, the lead-up to ND was summer-long and the game was super-hyped. This led to what amounted to a weekend-long atmosphere of craziness. In a related story, I may have broken the record for most hyphens in a paragraph.

In '03, we were coming off a pretty bad road loss to BYU in the opener (a game which I watched on the stadium Jumbotron). Expectations were low, but as another poster said, starting from the first snap (Ball to Curry), the buzz in the stadium began to rise. Then it became a "Oh my God, is this really going to happen?" Then it became "let's tear these m-fers down!"

Also, good call on '99 FSU (@ FSU). I was threatened with death repeatedly on the walk to the stadium (wearing my #14 jersey). What a great game......only road game I've ever been to where I was offered compliments by the opposing fans.
