Even better than hearing that our defense is getting shaken up.

Poor kickoff coverage
The kickoff coverage teams will see so many personnel changes that Johnson declined to go into details. The Bulldogs returned one kick 89 yards for a touchdown and overall averaged 36 yards on kick returns. For the season, the Jackets are allowing 25.3 yards a return, ranking them 108th out of 120 teams.
Johnson said Scott Blair will continue to handle kicking duties, and Chris Tanner will kick field goal attempts.

Our kickoff coverage has been awful. I'm not sure which has been worse, our defense or our KO coverage.

those patsy punts/kickoffs that Blair was kicking up at MSU were making me sick... they were never deep and didn't stay in the air long at all. I've got respect for the kid, he did amazingly last year, but I don't know what happened. Apparently he's lost it...

and yeah, I'm sick of seeing arm-tackles on special teams. Like my HS coach used to tell us, "Put your god-d*** FACEMASK into his mother- f***ing CHEST! (spits)" that man could get Ben Stein fired up...

KO coverage in the Miss State game was worse than our defense in my eyes. Through the first 3 Qtrs, our defense gave up as many TDs as the KO coverage team, 1 TD. In the 4th quarter, Wommack started calling a prevent defense which inflated MSU's yardage and point totals. KO coverage needs an overhaul for sure. And I am glad CPJ is acting upon it.

You make our defense sound like they did something good in those first three quarters. They didn't. They got lucky that MSU decided to turn it over every time they touched it.

They had zero punts the whole game......ZERO.:ugh:

Even Miami, which we all agree was atrocious defensive game we played, punted it once.

Coach Kelly should be put back in charge of Special Teams.

The only thing CPJ has done which has me pissed off and confused is moving Kelly from that position.

FYI...we were #1 in the nation in kick off return coverage in 07. Now we are ****. Worst coverage unit (so far) in 20 years at Georgia Tech. Unacceptable.

How many of those 5 turnover which killed a drive may have been a punt. Everyone needs to get over it like they would prefer the other team punt instead of fumble. We forced the fumbles it is not like the MSU players were just running along and dropped the ball.

Considering that they were gaining about 5 and 1/2 yards per carry running the ball, and were 4-4 on 4th down conversions and were completing 2/3rds of their passes for 14 yards per completion, I'd venture to say NONE of them.

CPJ knows we can't kick a 40+ yard FG. So we go for it on fourth down hoping we get a first.

I'm expecting nothing but onsides kicks against FSU. We either tackle them at the 50 with no return, or we get the ball. Against MSU, that looked like a sound strategy.

.

Did you watch the same game? They had ONE unforced fumble, and they recovered it. The QB fumbled on the zone read play and fell back on it. What is "lucky" about stripping the football? All 4 were good plays by our defense.

Would you rather we forced 5 punts instead of getting 5 turnovers? A turnover is better than a punt, for momentum and field position.

Look, our defense didn't play great, but people need to give some credit for the plays they did make. Some of you act like MSU fumbled 4 snaps or something.

I'm not saying our defense is great. I am saying our defense is average, but our kick off coverage was even worse.

I don't mind turnovers and would love them over punts...but I would love the comfort of knowing that without a turnover we could force a punt....at no time did I have that comfort vs MSU.
