Big Money for CPJ

That's a bigger raise than I expected, but we got him tied up with a very long extension as well, so that's good.

Wow. We got us a coach and now we payed him! Sorta reminds me though of how South Bend reacted to a stellar first season coach. $700k a year raise and an exstension? Wonder what we'll give next year if we end up as ACC Champs.

How can we afford this?

We just gave our coach a 40% raise after one year. As much as I like CPJ and the job he's done, I just don't see how this works out for the AA financially. If we win the ACC next year do we start paying him $3 million a year?

The length of the extension doesn't really matter at all though, right? Because we rarely see coaches actually finish out their contracts. The question is what type of buyout clauses are in there?

Maybe the idea is that we will give him what he wants money wise to a point where we think is reasonable (maybe the level revealed today) and include a buyout clause that is large and favorable should he decide to leave. This way we ante up to begin with to a point we can handle and if wants the big big money we decide not to compete and wish him well with our cash still in hand.

GREAT--now we can sit back and enjoy the ride to another NC--soon, very SOON!!

well, since you dont contribute, the WE part is kinda silly on your part

others of us do contribute, and we will be asked to give more.

thats probably how.

also, they are likely 'projecting' higher revenues due to more excitement, so that will help. i also wonder if they have been able to restructure some of the left over expansion debt to lower rates in the current climate where banks are looking for safe borrowers

I can see that, but Fat Weis basically got his extension solely based on almost beating #1 USC (and still doesn't have a marquee win on his record. Paul Johnson completely changed the mentality of this program and fan base in one season. He also racked up program-building wins vs F$U and UGA and is poised to give Tech its best record in 10 years. If the AA is comfortable in upping his deal by this much, I say the man is worth every dime.

If he's a student he's paying athletic fees.

If he goes to games he's buying concessions.

That's contributing. Don't be a self righteous idiot.

Dan wouldn't pay him more if it was gonna hurt us financially, he got us out of the hole so he's not gonna put us back in it. The increase was approved unanimously. This was the highest we would go. PJ aint goin nowhere soon.

Sounds like a Win - Win for everyone! I look forward to alot more Wins in the future too! I just hope we can eek out a win in this bowl game, that would really keep us in a high note to go into the off season!

first off, athletic fees cover SAC as we called it, you call it the CRC, they have nothing to do with the AA - NOTHING

as far as righteous, i am already that

as far as idiot, i dont want to imitate you or Kyle too much on that...

instead of Dodd-like or winning threads, maybe you guys can help Tech and not yourselves???

Your worry is sorta kinda understandable, but neither you nor I has any idea what kind of money the AA has in its coffers now.

So the question, "how can we afford this?" can't be answered here...but it can obviously be answered.

Don't let big numbers scare you and just assume that it's too much, it will keep you from getting them yourself in the future.

Anyone who questions this is ignoring the fact that the GTAA deals with stuff like this every day, unlike us. They know what they are doing with this pay raise. If we consistently win for the next few years, we are going to get better and better talent, making winning much easier.

I would like to compare it to the hiring of Pete Carroll at USC. The last Pac-10 championship that USC has won prior to Pete Carroll was 1995 (a split championship) or 1989 (outright champion). Pete Carroll's first year (2001), they did not win the Pac 10. His 2nd year, they went on to win it as a split championship and they have been considered the expected champions of the Pac 10 ever since then. The same can happen to us with CPJ.

I am extremely pleased that we are committed to keeping CPJ here regardless of what it takes.

Wonder what the seat licensing fee is going to be next year?

Maybe, they'll jack up the processing fee as well?
