Big Money for CPJ

first off, athletic fees cover SAC as we called it, you call it the CRC, they have nothing to do with the AA - NOTHING

as far as righteous, i am already that

as far as idiot, i dont want to imitate you or Kyle too much on that...

instead of Dodd-like or winning threads, maybe you guys can help Tech and not yourselves???

The athletic fee contributes to the operating costs of maintaining a quality Division I athletic program that is also NCAA and Title IX compliant.

Pretty sure I win the thread.

You are a moron. There are two fees: recreation and athletic. Athletic fees cover sporting events and are required to be paid by all full time students. The recreation fee covers the CRC. In fact, a big part of DRad's strategy for getting us out of the red was doubling the athletic fee for students.

I can't wait for these folks to start bitching when the Tech Fund and tickets go up next year.

Dude, take a step back and realize how upset you're getting at two people that may or may not be able to legally drink for not giving more money to the AA.

To say that students don't contribute is a rather idiotic thing to say. First, we pay the athletic fee, which does go to the athletic teams. Second, we go to the games, which is supporting the team by *being there* and possibly by buying concessions. Third, we may or may not be members of the Swarm, which last I checked, included a monetary contribution. Not to mention we are paying tuition and other fees that support the rest of the school.

Oh, but that's right, while we're attending school and don't have paying jobs we should be contributing thousands of dollars per year to the program. Get this garbage out of this thread.

Back on topic, I'm pleased that we rewarded CPJ but I question the amount of the raise. Making him the second-highest paid coach in the ACC (when he was fairly low) doesn't seem to make much sense after a single season. Maybe after next season, but I don't see the justification in a raise *that* big after this year. Yes, we beat F$U, won the division (lost the tiebreaker b/c of bogus VT), and beat U[sic]GA, and I feel that deserves a raise, but not one this big. And I'm basing this on my personal opinion, not on the financials of the GTAA or anything (which I don't know anything about).

I fully expect this to hold CPJ here (not that I felt he would leave anyway) and plan to help support it more once I graduate.

Let's get into a pissing why dont we? Oh and while we're at it, my could beat up your dad....

GTKyle on the inner workings of the GTAA's finances:

How can we afford this?

We just gave our coach a 40% raise after one year. As much as I like CPJ and the job he's done, I just don't see how this works out for the AA financially. If we win the ACC next year do we start paying him $3 million a year?

DRad got us out of the red. I imagine he knows how to keep us out of there too.

Buzzczar happens to be partly right. But speaking as someone who used to raise money from new alumni, guys like Kyle are the keys to the future of the GTAA. When Kyle graduates from GT he is the type of person the GTAA is after. 1.) He is an alumnus who is loyal to his school. 2.) He's a big time football fan.

This type of person constitutes about 20% of graduating alumni and not all of those 20% are capable or care enough to write checks to the GTAA after they write a check to the alumni association.

Kyle you're not there yet, but one day you will be, and you need to be prepared to open up your wallet and show your support. That's what it is all about. And as embassadors of our school, we need to encourage the hell out of guys like Kyle and Rodzilla to give back. They are the pieces we need to build a successful athletic association and sports programs.

In contrast to my youngest son, who will graduate from Tech in May with a degree in ID. He only knows there is a game going on because he lives at North Ave apartments and notices that it is crowded around there and the stadium.

My oldest graduated in 2006 and he is already buying season tickets for football and basketball despite the fact he lives in Chattanooga.

Go figure, at least I'm batting 50%.

Wow. Seriously? Doesn't even know there's a game.:wow:

My best friend and I both came to GT together from high school. I think he's been to maybe one football game in the 12 years since we graduated high school and that was during his interview sessions for the Presidential Scholarship.

I can see that, but Fat Weis basically got his extension solely based on almost beating #1 USC (and still doesn't have a marquee win on his record. Paul Johnson completely changed the mentality of this program and fan base in one season. He also racked up program-building wins vs F$U and UGA and is poised to give Tech its best record in 10 years. If the AA is comfortable in upping his deal by this much, I say the man is worth every dime.

Can't argue with CPJ getting it done. Plus we have to pay what the top of the ACC does if we expect to be at the top of the ACC. Now all we need to do is sit back and knock the living daylights out of LSU

guys, it wasnt really a slam on anyone. but, if you are going to question the AD on what he is paying our coach then find out the facts and pay up if you like the coach and want him to stay

thanks for supporting Tech, but i doubt that GSU paintballlicker will ever make a meaningful contribution to Georgia Tech. As far as Kyle, time will tell, but i bet he just goes back to France where "no one has ever heard of Georgia Tech" (even though we have a campus there)

live on, young uns, prove me wrong

Kiebler backs up the big money for Johnson!!

To be honest, at least as far as money is concerned, I trust DRad. A LOT. He has done an amazing job bringing the AA back in the black (and yes, part of that was extracting over $100 / semester athletic fees from students, purely for AA. Rec fees, a separate fee covers the CRC. So students pay approx. $250 / yr on GT athletics).

Also, the only way Tech keeps a good coach, is if we agree to take a risk on them, and promise them a large sum of money for many years. I think PJ was the best person to take that risk on since his stock will always be a little lower than an equivalent coach because of his offense (not because it is any worse, but being unconventional, not many AD's would want to risk their jobs on it), he is more proven as a college level HC than any other coach we stand a reasonable chance of landing (much less keeping for the long haul unless we pay up) and cause he does not really seem to be the jumping type. Short of being offered a Saban type of deal before he wins an MNC here, I dont see him jumping for anyone else...

and just why would you expect to know the finances of GTAA?
