Bilbo

Yea, you're right...That would be unheard of.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">Gold Rush, I think you may have misunderstood. You are right, it is not laughable that he could develop into a possesion-type WR. But what I read is that's it's laughable that people think he doesn't need to practice and develop, he just needs to "jump up and catch the ball".

Well, It's been a day since I posted. It's weird after a day, you can read your own post and hear it differently than you meant it.

It sounded negative towards DBo, but I meant it as positive, in that, the sky is probably the limit for him at some position. I am just anxious for him to find that spot for himself.

I was also kind of hoping for some "No, he's hustling, and you misread what you thought you saw" responses.

I don't doubt Chan. I'm sure there is a reason for all of this. I have a hard time believing DBo wouldn't be on the field if he was the best man at a position.

Like some have said, it takes a while to adjust to any position. I guess it's almost like playing QB in high school and having to learn another position in college. Those guys almost always redshirt, and maybe the waiting period is almost like like that.

Looking at it that way, coming in even in the middle of the season would put him ahead of the learning curve comparitively. All these guys are stud athletes (although not all on his level). Technique matters at this level, regardless of talent, so I guess he's learning it.

A close game would not be the time to put him at certain positions.

It took Logan a full year, and he was SC's "Mister Football." Of course, I think DBo was MS's "Mister Football" as well. It took Landry a while, and all of a sudden he's the man.

I'm sure there is a reason for the wait. I just want to see more great surprises this year. If he were to come in and perform well, it would charge him and team up just like Reggie this year and Tony last year.

Maybe we'll get a midseason jolt in a few weeks.

Your genius is overwhelming - wish you would back up your opinion with some facts but like most of the stuff you stick up it's shrouded in ignorance.

By any legitimate criteria, Ole Miss has a fine program.

Has Bilbo used up a red shirt year yet? If not, it would be conceivable to try him at wide receiver in practice and see how fast he develops.

If it appears he needs more refinement, then a year of red shirt at the postion could be immense for his last two years at the wide receiver spot.

He got a medical redshirt after the Navy 77-7 thrashing for his thumb.

I dont know what the deal is, but supposedly hes too good to leave off the field, and there were some quotes in the newspaper in the past few weeks saying bilbo will get to play, but havent seen him much.

Also, he was considering transfering, but supposedly he was convinced to stay. if hes not gonna get any playing time, then maybe he should not have been encouraged to stay.
<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">Just curious..Do you know the situation? Have you been at practice? Have you talked to Coach Gailey and Bilbo? Do you think that he just might not be good enough at this point or should i say quit ready to contribute yet at another position? Coach Gailey (who knows a little bit about switching players to the most effective position for that particular player, after all the Tony Hollings & Dawan Landrey moves proved that to be the case) said on his radio show today that Bilbo wasnt quit ready yet..But would be in time...

Nothing personal, but if Bilbo is going to be saying this kind of stuff in the paper, then I wish he'd transferred too. Patience, Bilbo, patience.

If he was doing it on the practice field, he would bee given the chance to do it in the game.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">Have you watched them play this year?
They're TERRIBLE.

You need facts?
Ok, they're 2-1 right now because they lost to MEMPHIS. They won their season-opener in a 3 point come from behind win against VANDY. Do I need facts to prove to you that these are not top programs?

My point was that all this talk about transferring to Ole Miss makes absolutely no sense, for 2 simple reasons:
1. They are not a good football team
2. What no one seems to realize, that Oxford is NOT any closer to his hometown than Atlanta.

And now, for some reasons as to why Ole Miss sucks.
A Look at the last 10 years:
1993: (6-5) 3rd place SEC West (because AU was on probation yet again), no bowl
1994: (4-7) 5th place SEC West (see comment above), no bowl
1995: (6-5) LAST place SEC West, no bowl
1996: (5-6) LAST place SEC West, no bowl
1997: (7-4) 3rd place SEC West, Ford Motor City Bowl
1998: (7-5) 4th place SEC West, Independence Bowl
1999: (8-4) 3rd place SEC West, Independence Bowl
2000: (7-5) 3rd place SEC West, Music City Bowl
2001: (7-4) 5th place SEC West, NO bowl
2002: (7-6) 5th place SEC West, Independence Bowl

Ok Father WASP, after looking back at these numbers, you are right, there is nothing to support my claim that the best Ole Miss can hope for is the Independence Bowl. What was I thinking? Ole Miss has a GREAT program! Look how powerful they are EVERY year in the mighty SEC West.

Any S-A would be lucky to have the opportunity to transfer to such a powerhouse.

Do me a favor and think before you post.
Thanks.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">As for my claim that we beat Auburn and he has little chance of doing that at one of the Mississippi schools, here's the last 20 years.

AU vs MS St: 14-6
AU vs Ole Miss: 13-3
Combined record: 27-9.

If a 75% winning percentage is not enough to support my claim I sincerely apologize.

I am so sorry that my posts are shrouded in ignorance. I will keep you in mind from now on. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.

Yo BLACK WATCH, why dont you read the article in the AJC today? Bilbo said he wants to be on the field and he "thought that was going to happen, but it hasn't happened yet." He also says, that by switching positions, he though he was "going to be able to help the team out in other ways, but, thus far, it hasn't really happened."

Bilbo, being a football player, is smart enough to know that it takes time to switch to a new position, and I'm sure Gailey is honest enough to have told Bilbo that it will be some time before he gets to play.

But if Bilbo knew he would not be playing immediately, or if Gailey told him he would not be playing immediately, then why would he make the above comments and be so regretful of staying, BLACK WATCH?

Shady, my question is context. If Bilbo is really sorry he stayed, then I feel for him and maybe he still needs to leave. If, however, he didn't really mean it that way but Hollis either misunderstood or used his comments out of context then the story is completely different. For that matter, we don't really know if that's what Bilbo even said. Every player wants to play. I would be disappointed in Bilbo if he wasn't unhappy with his lack of PT. But being unhappy about PT and wanting to transfer aren't the same thing. We'll just have to see as the season progresses.

im am sure the ajc writer didnt lie about what bilbo said, but im also pretty sure that he probably left out any positive quotes and put only the negative ones in his story.

but then againg all news writers leave out info that may reveal both sides of a story.

I introduced myself to a group behind the AMC. One person told me his handle on Stingtalk was chilidogking. Maybe I misunderstood. Is there another poster with the name Chili in his board name? Also, possibly on the Hive?
