Blue jersey rumor

I definitely like the White and Gold best. Who can argue with tradition?

But, I like the Blues as well. As long as we don't make a huge habit of it, why not let them wear them if that's what the players really want?

Blue would look awesome for a one game situation. I'd like to see it worn in a TV game, so prefer not against Duke. If the team votes to wear them, they should. I think it would look in the ACCCG or the bowl. As far as donors go, I know money is everything these days, but shouldn't the actual people who decide games on the field choose?

Death 2 Blue Jerseys

worn in a TV game

Which completely defeats the central theme of marketing and branding.

These people that suffered through the 80's only think of the blue jerseys in terms of 1990.

The reality is Blue is a terrible choice for a National Brand, because it's ubiquitous. Too many high schools and the convent in South Bend are much more identifiably blue...

however no one has a single claim to GOLD.
Purdue/Vandy are the closest but their fans and teams seem to prefer the Black jerseys to their gold--though Purdue does a great job using Metallic rather than Vegas.

Just remember, it was the Atlanta Constitution that decided Tech's MUSTARD jerseys were too drab and needed to add Blue....when has any good idea come from the Constitution.

the blue jerseys do exists and i do think we will see them...i just hope it is with the white helmet from the throwback game...and maybe in the ob...or maybe we shoudlnt bring that crap in there...lol...

Once again, if the players want to wear blue who are we to tell them no? They're playing the games, not us.

Let's try and remember who this is all about.

Re: Death 2 Blue Jerseys

Sorry gtg8r, I think this brand identity is way overblown. Yes, most college fans know we wear gold, but not whether it's supposed to go with white or blue or whatever. What they recognize is the interlocked GT. In fact, many schools have gone to more colors as a way to make their brand wider and more appealing. Look at Oregon for example. They have so many combinations of their colors that no one has any idea what they're going to look like in a given game.

In fact, I don't personally like the gold we're using now. If we change the shade, does that effect the brand? If we put strips on the pants, or take them away, does that effect the brand?

Periodic changes that are played up as unique, actually strengthen the brand IMO.

I agree. It is about the players and the team. I just expect to win out. I don't care what color they pick. Mustard gold, Navy or Pee Yellow.

Conformation:

I can confirm that the jersies are hanging in the equipment room. I saw them at the begininning of the year on a tour of the facilities. My son held up 21 and we took a picture. I was disappointed when we did not wear them for nd.

I can confirm that CCG has allowed black shoes and black socks and is becoming softer when it comes to giving in.

I can confirm that the AUC started the rumor of wearing the blue jersies.

I say it the want to wear them, let 'em.

I think the only teams that have a brand associated with their colors are either ND or teams that wear a color that nobody else does, such as Tennessee, Texas and UNC. Maybe Michigan with their Blue and Maize, but that's the only other team I can think of.

So I personally have no problem with the team wearing blue, especially if the team wants to and if its only for one, non-televised game. Truly, I have a much bigger problems with FANS not wearing gold then the team not wearing gold for one game.

Remember ND wears blue and then green on special occasions. As long as we don't wear green, purple, red, or pink occasionaly, I could care less.

Loved the '90 team. Hated Tech in blue.
Loved the '85 team. Hated Tech in black.
Favorite - the gold pants, gold headgear, white jerseys.
I'm fine with the current home uniform, and also loved the throwback gold with white helmets this year.
Please, no blue jerseys!

I hate the current home jerseys. I know you can't match the gold exactly, but we have to be able to do better than that. Maybe Nike can get it done?

FWIW I don't mind the blue, if it's a periodic thing. Just as the throwback jerseys and helmets were fine as a change of pace. But I do prefer white jerseys and gold helmets/pants. I still think the gold we wore prior to O'Leary was better...it was a deeper gold rather than the Vegas.

I have a real problem with the words "joke' and 'bitter old man' being used in reference to the donor in question. Having had the pleasure of knowing him and his family for a number of years he is to be admired for his integrity and generosity to GT. He is a gentleman, and I mean that in the truest sense of the word, a gentle man, of the highest order who feels fortunate to have earned his station in life and who puts his money where his mouth is to benefit and promote GT. I sincerely doubt he would pull his financial support due to a disagreement over navy jerseys.

Let's put the money issue aside and respect the man for being one of us who very proud of his alma mater.

TO HELL WITH GA!!!

SELAH.

North Carolina's helmets were nowhere near the color of their jerseys last Saturday. Helmets darker than tops. So much for Nike.

He does more to divide the GT fan base than any one human being I've ever known.

While I think we can do without the personal insults and assault on a man's integrity, the "gentleman" in question is using his influence with the school to put forward an agenda that contradicts the wishes of the players AND a number of fans. While I do not want to see us change our uniforms for every game, I do like the spectacle and change that alternate uniforms can provide. For one man to say that he will not support a school because they choose to wear an alternate color for a game is beyond silly in my opinion.

I have no problem with changing our uniforms now and then, but generally sticking to the gold britches, white shirt, gold helmet and preferably the go back in time gold shirt as worn this year.

I don't like the alumni influence, but I also know that alumni influence my school and athletic association all the time.
