huh...

It looks like 33-year-old Oklahoma OC Lincoln Riley will replace him.

OU is so much less interesting all of a sudden. Surely they throw some dollars around for a big name in the coming year?

I can understand his motivation. Dad died of a heart attack coaching a football game. Stoops is already late 58. Has more money than he needs. He will be revered the rest of his life at Oklahoma. Leave on a winning note

Don't know CPJ's family history

A friend of mine has had his father and uncles all die before they turned 70. He is religiously healthy, but mentions it every so often like it is impending doom. He is late 50's.

At least when Saban was hired, he had the most Hewitt contract in college football. His salary was guaranteed to be highest in country. So when Saban was hired, he immediately got a raise to $4 mil.

Bummer. He seems like a classy guy. I hope he doesn't pull an Urban Meyer and end up coaching ND in a couple of years.

I always thought Dean Smith said it best when asked why he retired just before the start of a new basketball season in October of 1997. He said he knew that he would retire when he no longer looked forward to a new season. At the end of every season he would be tired and think about retirement. He used the summer to rest and refuel and he always knew that if he wasn't looking forward to and energized by the start of a new season then it was time to go.

I think Stoops is doing the same thing. It is time for a new season and he isn't looking forward to starting.
