Bobby Bowden on GT(790)...

Sorry to pile on Black Watch, but I agree with the others on Bowden and I would put money that i could find at least twice as many football fans that think Tater Senior is a hypocrite as you could find to defend him.

Outside of a few die hards in Tally that would sell their grandma for a win over Miami, college football fans look at his disciplinary record and are disappointed in it. He is judged by that.

Not to mention the late hits Andrews teaches that he turns a blind eye to. To me it is not just a 15 yard penalty to hit the QB late intentionally, it is unethical. I do not feel that BB has the same opinion.

How can you possibly compare the Book Stealing to Bowden's record? Ross suspended Bell for a whole year. Name me any coach who has suspended a star player that long for less.

Black watch, I don't want to argue with you either. There is nothing to argue about. Your evidence is other people's opinions that don't even necessarily agree with you.

Overall, senor Bowden has been very good for college football. That's my opinion. Its yours too.

You said I am wrong about my opinion on Bobby Bowden. You are wrong on your opinion of Bowden.
That makes us both wrong, or both right. Who cares, its all the same. We disagree, and that's ok.

You "non-sarcastically" wonder if I have ever played the game. Well, I have never played the game where hard nosed defense was confused with deliberately attempting to maim the opposition after the whistle's last echo. If thats your attitude toward sportsmanship, well then, live large.

As to Bowden being a class act, have you been personally enthralled by one of his down home speeches? I don't mean to be sarcastic asking that question, but it sure seems that you have formed your everlasting opinion on him while he is wearing a coat and tie.

I feel otherwise, and will hold my breath every time R. Ball gets anywhere near a sideline Saturday night.

You won't think Bowden is so great if one of his defensive players tries twisting the leg off of Ball while he is on the ground like they did that UF player.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">BW...I typically agree with your posts...but I have to agree with BeeSerk on this one. Bowdon has the world fooled. He plays this grandaddy, gosh darn it, I'm just lucky to be here, dadgum war, etc. etc. crap to seem like the guy next door.

The truth his that he has absolutely zero control of his program and has no intention of developing each and every one of his kids into men. He makes excuses for his players after they get busted for assaults, rapes, drug possessions, larceny, petty theft, vandalism, disordely conducts, etc. He simply wants them back on the field. He has set no standards for his team.

I have the joy of living and working with F$U alums now in the panhandle. They even tell me that Richt was the only one who kept the staff honest at F$U. Bowdon, Amato, and Andrews (he does tell his players to late hit btw) schemed, used the press, used players, etc. for the sake of winning. Of course the majority of them add that they do not mind as long as they are winning. Last year was the first year they started to turn a bit on him.

What is even more hilarious...is that Bowdon was quoted in the local papers as saying the media was out to get him by reporting his players misdoings.

Talk about denial!!!

Hate to say it...but the whole "good ole boy" act is just that...an act. He is smart as a fox and laughs all the way to the bank.

I hope that Tech beats the tar out of FSU this weekend, but I can provide what I feel to be conclusive proof of Bowden being a class act! After FSU beat Nebraska for the national championship in the early 90's, Tom Osbourne called Bobby Bowden and asked him what he was doing wrong. Bowden talked personally with Osbourne for over 2 hours on that call explaining things he thought they should do at Nebraska (reportedly, the main thing he emphasized was the need for more team speed at U of N). Then, he sent all of his assistant coaches to Nebraska to put on a 2-day clinic for the Nebraska coaches...just because Tom Osbourne was a friend who had asked for help.

Two years later, FSU lost to Nebraska in what became Osbourne's first national championship. After the game, Bowden was asked to comment on the game and he said, "We were just beaten by a better team with a better coach!" If it weren't for the announcers of that game, noone would have known about what Bowden has done.

No matter what else you want to judge the man by, that was a CLASS ACT!

BLACK WATCH,

you have a SERIOUS reading comprehension. Why do you continuously assert that I have a problem with Gailey?????

I have NEVER been against Gailey, for you to say otherwise is on outright lie. At this very moment I happen to think he is the brightest spot in the GTAA. What exactly is your problem? Like I have said too many times... you simply have an agenda to pick fights with fellow GT fans. You reach for anything you can when somone says something you don't like. You need to get a life.

I am a Christian, I believe and fear in God. Is that simple enough for you? Where have I ever said that I didn't like a coach because they were religous?

Let me say this one more time for you to comprehend:

I think Bowden is a HYPOCRITE, because of the religious image that he promotes. His actions DO NOT support that image. His religion alone has NOTHING to do with it. Bowden is guilty of accepting immorality in his program more than any other coach than I can think of. It is hypocrisy that I despise, not his religous beliefs.

So far, I think highly of Gailey. He is the kind of religous coach I would want my kid playing for. Not Bowden.

Satisfied?
<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">Read all of your post. Just want to say I respect you, but don't always agree. Don't in this case.

Will say that I think you seem (I said seem. You did as well.) to have a problem with Coach Gailey.

I'm not going to get into an argument with you. Doesn't have a purpose as far as I'm concerned. Not personal with me. Think of you as a friend.

As far as pissing contest go, you pee a lot.

GO Jackets!

GTT,

No problem my friend!

I am confused about the Gailey comment though. I never admitted I "seemed" to dislike Gailey. I have been VERY consistent on my opinion of Gailey. It has gone from neutral to very supportive. If I ever leveled critcism at Gailey, it was purely from an analytical perspective and never contradicted my opinion of him.

I admit that I can argue on a particular subject a little too long, but I don't keep harping on the same exact subject needlessly. Braine is a needed dead horse though at the moment!

I'd love to see CCG become coach of the year. However, Coach Grobe over at Wake Forest will probably get it.

It is WAY too EARLY yet to project..But Man, What a job Jim Grobe does....I dont believe he stays at Wake for much longer..I would have to agree with Tony Barnhart..He will be getting a lot of calls from Big Time Schools...I forgot about Jim Grobe...But if we have a winning season..NO DOUBT Coach Gailey will get a LOT of votes....Simply because of us losing so many key players...

I believe in this instance, Bowden was being sincere and honest....

Bowden a "class act"? That is a funny one. I crack up every time I hear someone say that.

Beeserk..Explain to me in detail why you dont consider Bobby Bowden a Class act?? Now i know i hear a couple of the kids here slam him from time to time but by in large People throughout the NCCA consider him a Class act. So i was wondering if you could give SPECIFIC details as to why YOU would not consider him a Class Act ???

You know, even though there are things in his program that I don't like, I just like Bobby. I think he's sincere and wouldn't have any problem with my son playing for him. Maybe I'm just blind to some things, but in today's world of college football I still think he's one of the good guys.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">Bowden is the biggest hypocrite in college football. Spurrier was just as underhanded, but never tried to put up this holy image of himself. Bowden claims to be such a man of God....

Yet he has consistently recruited thugs, thieves, and rapists.

He has consistently refused to punish them when caught.

McPherson would still be on the team if there wasn't such overwhelming and obvious evidence against him.

That pretty much sums it up for me.

Before anyone gets confused about my motivations...

I don't hate F$U. They are an awesome football team, and Bowden is an awesome football coach. I just don't like the man. We are their beaach until we prove we can beat them.

If BB is a Christian, then I have been
fooled on what it means to be a Christian.

I could speak volumes about some of the
things he has done with some of his thug
players at Free Shoes University. Think
what you want to about St. Bobby, but the
bottom line with him is winning at all costs.

Some font mentioned former coach Ray Goff as
being included as one of the Righteous Brothers,
don't get me started on some of his shady
things he did when he was supposedly on the
road recruiting.

BB, Christian well at least he claims to be. I will not judge him I can only say I heard him speak at my church, then the next day on television during an interview he exposed himself as a liar. He either lied at my church or he lied on TV because he was at complete odds with his statements to say the least. Thats why I call him the big Liar. My feeling are he lied at my church.
