Bobby Cremins / Paul Johnson

I started this thread because I thought it was an interesting comparison. I would have kept Coach Cremins. He was not fired but he was pushed out. He, more than any coach since Dodd, deserved to leave on his terms.
Coach Johnson will leave within the next five years one way or the other. The decision should be based on when is best for Georgia Tech. I believe the deciding factor should be when the best replacement is available. There is no reason to change unless we can get something better. If we do not change the recruiting restrictions, it may not make a difference.

Both had a lot of successs, particularly early on. But then Cremins had 3 losing seasons in his last 4 years, just like it looks like Johnson will. Not as much difference as you probably think.

Hewitt and Johnson would be a better comparison. Both took over under achieving programs, had great success early then left them as dumpster fires for the following coach.

Disagree. I don't really see much similarity at all. Hewitt only had 2 decent seasons out of 11, and was garbage for 6 straight years before we let him go, despite many inherent recruiting advantages that Johnson does not have. Paul Hewitt finished below .500 in conference 7 out of 11 seasons. That is bad. Paul Johnson finished below .500 in conference 1 out of 10 seasons so far. Not the same at all.

A lot harder to go .500 in ACC Hoops that ACC football. Hopefully I don't have to explain why. Essentially thats like equating an NCAAT bid to qualifying for the Humanitarian Bowl.

Going 4-4+ isn't a success in football. Hell Chan Gailey did it 100% of the time

And Hewitt went to the NCAAT 5 times but only had 2 decent seasons?
